Probably not quite close to the style requested, but I'd like to add a great cd by a Japanese trio named
Onna Kodomo. Their album
Syuuka is one I found in the bargain bin of Soleilmoon, and glad I did. It's haunting and atmospheric, like a ghostly soundtrack to a Japanese horror video game. Basically just vocals, and what sounds like a fretless bass and violin make up the recording, but also some nice eerie ambient sounds. One track features what sounds like a rusty cart being slowly rolled along the ground, or maybe chalk streaking across a board in slow motion, like a ghost toiling away at some meaningless task. It's great! Most of Onna Kodomo's albums were self-released and long gone, but Syuuka is available even as a download too, in Amazon.com.
According to Discogs there were at least 2 other releases they made, but for 45 dollars each, it's a tad out of reach....there's an e-mail I found for them on the web, but it seems to be no longer in use. If anyone has or knows where to get
Oboro or
Hypnosis from this group, please let me know. It's a shame to see potentially good music just disappear.
