Unfathomless: new Mystery Sea sublabel
« on: October 18, 2009, 02:04:15 AM »
Hello, just thought I'd share with all drone enthusiasts like myself (with a name like Drone On, what did you expect?) a new label out of Belgium run by Daniel Crokaert of the amazing Mystery Sea.  Unfathomless appears to be more based on environmental soundscapes, from my understanding, than the typical drone style.  First release is by Mathieu Ruhlmann.  These releases will be limited editions of 150-300 but pressed CD's instead of CDR's and a higher quality paper for the booklets (no inkjet printer).  There's also a limited edition companion CDR (50 copies) by Ruhlmann that can be purchased as a special edition set with the main release.  Nice website, too, with sound samples for the two Ruhlmann discs.

Just received special edition of Mathieu Ruhlmann "Tsukubai".
This comes with a limited Údition CDr called "Funayurei".
"Tsukubai" sounds like electroacoustic music with a lot of environmental (water sources) melting with rumbing electronic.
"Funayurei" sounds more ambient, with some ghostly
Two different ambiences, but very complementary.
Nice lay out as usual, but without any jewel box. They both come in transparent plastic enveloppe.

I need to do some deep headphone listening of this set, but on the big stereo the limited edition disc sounded much better to me (ghostly ambient is a good description).  The main release is mostly environmental/water sounds, with hints here and there of electronic washes.
