Hello from Sweden + Recommendations
« on: November 08, 2009, 05:32:42 PM »
Hi, I just got registered on the forum, cos lately my interest in Ambient has been revitalized. Discovered Steve Roach through a friend and I can safely say I've never heard anything like it. I am sure you who know him knows what I'm talking about.

So I am currently seeking to expand my Ambient collection with more good stuff. Recommendations are appreciated!

My current favorites looks like this:
Steve Roach - the man!
Daevid Allen And Micro Cosmic - Sacred Geometry
Monolake - Gobi. The Desert EP
Thomas Köner - Nuuk
Robert Henke - Signal To Noise
Joel Tammik - Eluline
Sola Translatio - Mother Sunrise
Rapoon - Time Frost
Alio Die - Suspended Feathers
Fennesz - Venice
Tetsu Inoue - Ambiant Otaku
Milieu - A Warm Wooden Hollow
Bass Communion - Bass Communion II

Av dom jag rekommenderade så är väl Robert Rich den viktigaste, men du kanske har hört honom redan ?
Hans skiver "Stalker" och "Somnium" (Flac versionen) rekommenderar jag...även Below Zero.

I have listened some to Robert Rich but it hasn't 'clicked' for me yet, I will give it some more tries though.

Welcome to the Hypnos Forum, headonist.  You seem to like a wide variety of ambient music, from Fennesz and Monolake, to Thomas Koner and Steve Roach.

Blackinfinity's recommendations are good ones, and you'll find lots of other music discussed here, especially in the "now listening" topic.

Robert Rich was my doorway into the world of ambient music... the Stalker album... Steve Roach is my favorite still though...after SR Robert Rich is my favorite...then Oophoi.

I can also really recommend Paul Vnuk Jr - Silence Speaks in Shadow

I see a big difference between Berlin school and ambient music though :)

But yes, if we are going to recommend Berlin school/Electronic, I really think Klaus Schulze and Ken Martin belongs to that list! Also Fanger & Schönwälder DUO have released good stuff... and ARC...NODE...Indra..Rudy Adrian...Craig Padilla..Robert Scott Thompson

BTW I did fall a sleep to Radio Massacre International tonight such amazing and deep music!

Klaus Wiese was a good tip. I am falling for some of his stuff (will probably be on my next order).

He died last year, so in future I think his cds will become more rare... cause he did release his music through his own label... Anyway, I got about all 70 CDs on mp3 atleast, quite good collection :)
If you like Klaus Wiese you should like Grassow also.

Ok! But, I do buy everything I like. Even some OOP titles if the prices are not insane.

I do too, especially with ambient music, I want to make sure I have the original sound quality.

"Trances/Drones" is amazing...  I think you'd like it.  It takes a few listens (it moves very slowly) but patience pays off.

Of recent music, I'd like to add...

Stars of the Lid - especially "Tired Sounds" and "Refinement"

Johann Johannsson - "Fordlandia" and "IBM 1401"

Hammock - "Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow"

And some older classics of ambient/electronic music:

Biosphere - "Substrata"
Global Communication - "76:14"
Aphex Twin - "Selected Ambient Works vol 2"
Michael Stearns - "Planetary Unfolding"
Brian Eno - "Music for Airports"
