Lotuspike as spam generator?
« on: December 27, 2009, 02:12:01 PM »
Hi all,

For weeks now I've been getting relentless spam e-mail from the Lotuspike address. Anyone else?

Yeah, I'm getting loads of spam from lotuspike as well. I contacted Jeff Kowal about it a few days ago. Hopefully he'll take care of this. - J.

Sometimes spammers insert the email address of an innocent party into the "from" field of their spam emails, so receiving a spam email that says it's from a certain address doesn't necessarily mean it actually originated there.  This practice is called "sender spoofing" and is designed to help spam messages get through spam filters.

Having said that, if a lot of different people are receiving spam from the same address in a short time, especially just after having communicated with Lotuspike to place an order, I'd say one of their individual PCs is compromised, or their email server has been hacked.  A surprising number of people use very weak passwords.

All Lotuspike's customers must be getting these, because my last order had to have been at least 6 months ago.
