RELEASE: Jeff Pearce - Daylight Slowly
« on: February 15, 2010, 06:06:06 PM »
Artist: Jeff Pearce
Title: Daylight Slowly (2010 reissue)
Label: Hypnos CD

We're finally ready with our reissue of this great early Pearce album, which was out of print between about 2002 and 2009. New issue includes updated cover artwork, and plastic-free vellum envelope packaging, at a lower price.

Many Jeff Pearce listeners missed this original release, and may have wanted to catch up on this wonderful collection of early Jeff Pearce guitar ambience. Pearce has moved on to a more direct and musical (as opposed to ethereal and absctract) direction in recent years, and uses a Chapman Stick now rather than an electric guitar, so if you miss the earlier work in this style, give this a listen. We even replaced the old-fashioned Real Audio samples with ultra-modern new MP3 sample clips!

Examples of praise for the first release:
"Best of the year list."
--Eric Meece, KKUP Radio
--Vladimir Jovanovic, Inner Space Radio, Zagreb, Croatia
--Scott Raymond (#1 ranking for the year), WVKR radio
--Chuck VanZyl, Star's End Radio, WXPN, Philadelphia

"Daylight Slowly, his latest solo album, is another deliciously slow, shimmeringly serene album of processed electric guitar. "
--John Dilberto, Echoes Radio

"The most "romantic" cd of Hypnos Label. Has a strange light and a sensation of time slow-down..."
--Massimo Pavan, Italy

The new front artwork is great (except for the problem I have with the new "style" of the packaging).
Is this a simple rerelease or was there any remastering or anything like that ? I recently bought the original release... it's one of Jeff's best in my opinion.

Nice to hear that this disc is back in print.  It's probably my favorite of Jeff's ambient releases.  Two other limited releases of Jeff's that deserve the reissue treatment are Summer Solstice and Songs For The Gathering.

I agree with you Forrest,
(BTW, since many months I promise to myself to contact you to purchase some of your works; you are in a little set of artist I really exteem)

back to Jeff,

That's incredible: I lost "Daylight Slowly" in my home ?!!! arghh... that's one of CD I listened so much ... one of my preferred
and I lost it at home!!! :( I become crazy when I loss something at home and I'm unable to find it .. :)

I possess pretty all Jeff works and I feel "Daylight Slowly" is the better,
it bring you from the surface of sea in deep wather and back to surface, back and forward slowly ...
great!

Also in the case of this great artist as many others (I think about Robert Rich, Robert Fripp, etc.),
I feel he started in recent years a more "simple" musical way, in opposition to the initial sonic experimentation;
personally I do not love too much the turn to new music with stick, even if I admit that Jeff' harmonic solutions are are always interesting and never banal ... but some of his old sonic experimentation, filtering electric guitar with the digital effects achieved some sort of "perfection"!
All in all I still consider Jeff a master.

Yes, I think this is the best Jeff Pearce release of his whole catalog (not just Hypnos), followed by "Shores" and "Bleed."  The new artwork is a perfect fit as well.
