Random Question #16

Personally - I don't think it's possible.  ;-)

As far as I realized in the short time since I'd joined this forum, 90% of all discussions seem to be about

mastering
CD vs CDr vs netrelease
piracy

Hence I don't really think so  ::)
Those seem to be the questions and topics which really move the average Ambient musician each day.

We should make March 2010 "Hypnos Forum's Official Start a New Topic About Something Other Than These Three Boring Subjects" month.

This topic doesn't count.

How about American Idol!

I know AI is probably laughed at a lot around here, but last season was seriously great and some of the best TV I've ever seen. (Adam Lambert should have won, though)  This season right now though is pretty terrible...

I also think those three subjects are pretty played out, and yes, I realize the irony of saying that since I have a topic on piracy, but I needed opinions for my essay. :-[ Maybe some threads about different genres that aren't related in any way to ambient would be a cool thing to do.

I made some really good  baby back ribs with a cherry glaze on my smoker yesterday. They were much better than CD's or CDR's IMO. At least they were at the time.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

I like how lively the forum has been lately. It was getting pretty quiet for a while there.

We don't have cable -- by choice.  Since the switch to digital over-the-air TV I've been able to pick up all the stations in the area with amplified "rabbit ears" -- except the local Fox affiliate, which only comes in if the television gods will it.  I do have to ... tweak ... the antenna between stations, but most of them come in.  If it was up to me, I'd leave it at that.

Unfortunately, my wife derives no satisfaction from the successful search for a signal, and she's a huge American Idol fan ... so obviously this situation is intolerable!

I've just ordered some major antennas for the attic ... along with a pre-amp, cables, mounting hardware, etc.  And in a week or so I get to go up into the attic and hook it all up.  Yippee.

Yet another reason to dislike American Idol, if you ask me!  >:(

Does any one here know, or wish to debate, the differences in animation/video compression? (I'm actually serious.)

Man, I miss my cassettes.  And my rotary phone.   And my Color Computer II with cassette 'drive'.   And text adventure games.  And three major US networks + public tv.   And blocky graphics on an Atari 2600.  And manual transmission cars.   And going on vacation with my parents in August to Mt. Rushmore in a car with no air conditioning (recommended for all asthmatics!).

I could probably help you in that area.  What types of codecs are you wondering about?
