December 21, 2012 Theories
« on: March 16, 2010, 04:38:36 PM »
What are your beliefs on what may happen 12/21/12?  Here are some scenarios currently being postulated:

1) UFO/alien disclosure by benevolent beings. Change in universal consciousness on Earth, followed by release of previously secret technologies like electro-magnetic energy/anti-gravity.
2) Takeover of Earth by hostile aliens.
3) Planned hoaxed "alien invasion" by shadow government to create New World Order (one government)
4) Alignment of supposed "Planet X" aka Nibiru, an extra-solar planet the size of Jupiter, with Earth that will cause tidal waves, floods, earthquakes and kill off most of the population.
5) Book of Revelations will come true, vis a vis one or more of the above scenarios.

Lots of interesting clips on YouTube on these topics.  Every theorist claims to "know" what will happen on this date.  Some of these conspiracy theorists are convincing up until they start saying we never went to the Moon, that's when they lose me!

Green cheese moonscape theories have as much rational basis as 12/12/12 armageddon theories.  "Because a bunch of ancient primitives said so" is not a rational basis.

Having said that, I think such predictions can be interesting and fun just like I think sasquatch and alien abduction stories can be fun.  I think 2012 might be the year Xenu chooses to return.

I believe that on 12/21/12, in spite of important lessons hard-learned over many years, ... I will still be rushing around with last-minute Christmas shopping.

Can't remember where I saw the cartoon ... but it showed a guy chiseling the calendar that 'ends' at 2012 and has just run out of room.   "hey, I ran out of room, what should I do now?"  ...  and the other guy goes "leave it... that'll really mess with their heads in 2012... "

Or something.   It was amusing.

I understand that the Mayan Calendar comes to an end in 2012 - I understand it was based on a large number of astronomical observations and was/is remarkably accurate - able to predict and (is this a word?) postdict things like lunar eclipses going back and forwards in time very accurately - much more so than our own calendar that is so innacurate it needs an extra day added every four years just to keep the sun in the same place!

I understand that numerous native American traditions all talk about this time and some, including the Hopi, are backed up in the sense that much of what they say is their past can be archeologically traced as accurate (ie tribal migrations from the place of emergence to the four directions and ending in what is now known as Hopi land).

I also know that each of these traditions have both positive and negative prophecies and that western scholars tend to interpret these through their own lenses - just think of the focus in the news on bad news and imagine which side of the prophecies get the attention....

Some Mayans have said that the calendar ends because time changes and the calendar would no longer be accurate - and they were the past experts in time (and many other things eg had the concept of zero long before us, doing intricate medical interventions when we were still prescribing lions milk etc).

I understand many theories have arisen. Some include complete doomsday, some say that we create the reality we will experience (ie either good or bad, and our current state does not bode too well) others that it will be very subtle, just a shift of dimensions and if we are out of tune well miss the choice of where we want to be......
