From his headquarters in Baltimore, new media artist Jason Sloan
explores aspects of spirituality and it’s connection to life, death, memory and the virtual world. A professor at the Interaction Design and Art department at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Sloan's performances, installations, audio environments and other related work examines the need for transcendence beyond the body through a vehicle of visual ritual and sonic stimulation. With this dialog, Sloan feels an urgency to evoke a collective experience between the viewer, listener, and artist that can bridge the gap between the physical and non-physical world. The focus of this transcendence is not to conform to any current trends or beliefs, but to take a non-dogmatic approach towards artistic and intellectual inquiry. In 2002, Sloan co-founded SLO.BOR Media with sound artist & web designer Matt Borghi as a vehicle for their individual releases and a platform for other artists. SLO.BOR Media is primarily a record label with an abject concern & desire to promote artistic packaging, design & conceptualizing.
Sloan’s performance, installations, net.art and video works have been exhibited internationally in New York, Vienna, Copenhagen, Toulouse, Kiev, Berlin & Saint-Petersburg, Russia. His sound works have been released on various labels and can also be heard on numerous international radio programs. His ambient & atmospheric musics seek to relate more towards inner reflection & contemplation, mirroring Eno's own dictums about the kind of resonating architectures an artist can divulge from sound.
