H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon
« on: September 28, 2010, 01:09:52 PM »
Most of you are nowhere near Portland, but if you're anywhere nearby you may be interested in this weekend's H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, aka CthulhuCon.  It happens Friday through Sunday, October 1-3, at the Hollywood Theater in Portland.

Lena and I will be there.  Anybody else from the Forum planning to attend?

Huge Lovecraft fan here. Idiotically missed out on the Festival when I was actually living in Portland. Now am seriously thinking of driving down from Seattle, Friday night, to catch the Saturday and Sunday events...

It's worth mentioning that this is supposedly the last one, or at least the organizer is taking a break after this year.

Hope to see you there, 9dragons!

He's probably returning to Arkham...

If you guys haven't read any fiction by Michael Shea, you're in for a treat.  His stuff's amazing.

I've read a little Michael Shea, and I'm looking forward to checking out more.  I'd love to grab his collection The Autopsy on Centipede Press but it's a bit pricey.  Centipede's showing up as a vendor at the festival so I can at least take a look at it.

It was awesome getting to see Michael Shea on a few panels, doing readings, and even sitting about an arm's length away in the audience during an S.T. Joshi (& others) discussion panel. He's really an amazing writer, and I was a little bit starstruck, (and I was really starstruck over Caitlin Kiernan! I must have ended up accidentally standing right next to her a hundred times over the weekend, but I was too shy to talk to her, I'm such a dork... :P )

This event really was a lot of fun. Crowd-watching might have been the best part, with such a diverse crowd of weirdos in attendance.  I'd guess there might have been eight or nine hundred people attending in the evenings (lots of people skipped the day sessions), though I haven't heard official numbers.
