Do you like new MySpace artist profiles?

This is madness. So many bugs... Somehow I managed to create quite decent page with built-in layouts. But still, even this new thing looks shinier, I prefered the older, because it was more minimalistic design.
I create new HTML module. Insert code etc. Click save, publish. Refresh profile.. it disappears...after few minutes appears and then again disappears. Wtf.

I don't mean to be harsh, but I can't believe anybody expects to find anything positive on Myspace any more.  In my opinion it's been years now since it was anything more than a vast wasteland of advertisement and self-promotion bordering on the grotesque.  It makes my eyes hurt just to think about looking at MySpace.

In 2-3 years people will say the same thing about Facebook.

Agree, I only use Myspace in a passive way these days. All my blog entries are fed automatically, all status updates are set automatically and I respond to friendship requests only every few weeks. Much more focused on Facebook these days...

Let's hope not. IMHO the biggest error Myspace made was to allow CSS-customized profiles, which made 90% of them ugly and almost unusable.

Facebook's advantages are that you can't edit the background or the layout very much, and you can't use GIF images.  It keeps things clean and orderly.  

I agree with Mike; MySpace is physically painful to look at.

Not really, I 'upgraded' to the new profile and while its better in some ways
(they give you a 'banner' effectively), its still very frustrating to use and some
parts are inaccessible (well to me they are).

Yeah, MySpace isn't what it was, but even then it was pretty ropey. Saying that,
it's still going and thats why I (as an artist) am still on it. If the 1 in 100
connections is 'real', then its worth hanging in there.

Anyone have any experience of using Facebook as a 'band type' profile ?

Yeah Myspace isn't what it used to be, but I would rather use that than Faeces Book,tried it once, totally crap, but each to their own.

I've been using it for a while now and I like it much better than MySpace. Only thing is that there's no player in a default profile, but you can add apps that provider player functionality or e.g. integrate a SoundCloud profile.

I tried (Facebook artist/music profile), but I just can't bring myself to get serious about it, or anything else for that matter when it comes to pushing my own music.

My son and I had a good laugh watching some one attempting to "network" at a club last week.  It all seems so pointless.  Like pissing in a river.  I'm just going to stick to composing and doing art, and if someone else wants to bang their head against the wall for me, I'll let them.

I set up a page for my previous label on facebook a long time ago - a royal pain.  I'm sure it's improved by now, I know I've seen some changes rolling through.

I have a Relaxed Machinery page on facebook - but I haven't taken the time to tweak it or promote it etc... if I can integrate soundcloud in wow - that's a big win for me.   Thanks for mentioning that false mirror!

I am getting tired of myspace due to all the damn advertisements and the layout changes, et al. Facebook, I need to sign on to, what is it that's associated with them? Bandcamp of whatever it is to pimp my music more and maybe get a link to it via that route. Anyone done that have info on what I need to do to get it on my facebook page?

Myspace - was cool, now it seems way too corporate and the pushing of use them to pimp your music through their affiliate program, forget the name....tunedb?

haha and I kinda agree with you. Although I prefer MySpace to Facebook, because it is more shiny and has more tweaking abilities and well, it looks more like a homepage, if you know what I mean... Talking about ads, I use adblock, so I don't see almost no ads in a web, unless it is "agressive" pop-ups which is hard to avoid not losing the functionality at the same time.

Facebook is very dull, in my opinion (maybe they will improve this in future   ), also I think that majority of people (artists and listeners) still prefer linking to myspace artist profiles, it's like an old tradition so to speak. Maybe I am wrong on this one, but then again, if I had my own personal page, I wouldn't use MySpace as "homepage".


p.s. for some reason, after this MySpace upgrade I can't view my own blog posts when I click "more"... still many bugs but my opinion a little bit changed..

It's very messy and confusing. The only way to do it is have your own website and design it right which may be a challenge for many. The variety of music player apps is also brutal. I will repeatedly visit a site that has a clean, consistent model for music playback. ECM, of all labels, has recently added a very good sampler console associated with new releases. Visually very good for navigation.

I simply got tired (and long ago) of people on MySpace.  Facebook doesn't seem worth the time.  Virb went a "pay for it" place.  I can't blame them, and it will make it a bit more, I dunno, serious.  If any kid can get a space, every kid will.  If one has to pay, then you get a better page.  But... do I really want to pay?  Still up in the air on that one.

I found MySpace late, after it was already a complete shitshow, so I never bothered to join. 

Some kid started a fan page for SunDummy on Facebook; I wasn't going to bother, but since he already created one, I asked to be made an admin.  A few people have contacted me because of it, but on the whole, I think it's a waste of time unless you're actively promoting stuff.  For example, Grapes of Wrath have been promoting reunion shows via their Facebook page; if I wasn't a fan, I'd never know about these shows; so it does have some value, if used correctly.
