Married to Ambient
« on: November 07, 2010, 09:15:11 PM »
Just got finished watching yet another reality tv series called Married to Rock about the wives of rock stars(yes I know, why am I watching yet another mind numbing reality tv show. I don't know...just makes me go off and not have to think for a while hahahah. anyways), etc and just got me to thinking of that they should do one called, Married to Ambient. Would be very interesting to see what happens in the day to day life of being married to an ambient star:)....

"Welcome to our wonderful home!"
MtA: "Umm - wow - it's smaller than I expected"
"It's 880 square feet - plus - we have a partial basement which does occasionally get water."
MtA: "oh ok, well show us around"
"Here's the kitchen... and the living room... that's Peanut our dachshund... she'll nudge your leg a lot with her nose, that's how she 'sees' you since she's blind as a bat..."
MtA: "wow this is a long and narrow living room... "
"Through here is our bedroom, and over there... that's where the magic happens!   The studio / spare bedroom"
MtA: "That's it?"
"Yeah - well unless you want to see the basement... but it's not that exciting".

Ok - I'll stop - this actually seems more like Ambient Cribs than Married to Ambient.  ;-)

If it's a proper show, it could have audiences vast asleep in about 10 minutes.

Well - I think Lena needs to be on the show.

I know darn well my Heidi would say no.   Sorry folks.  ;-)

Ahhh..come on now....someone has to represent out little side of music:).....besides I am sure besides getting big boatloads of money from their husbands, I am sure the network adds in another couple of million for starring on the show ::)

OK - I'll admit right up front that I generally actually like a lot of the E! reality shows.   They're mindless goofy fun.   However, I caught 2 minutes of Married to Rock... and ouch.

Can't I just be like Liz Lemon and write the material?

occasionally there's the... "is there something wrong with the car?  ... oh it's your music again."

We have the requisite suburban family: two kids, a dog, and a minivan.  We'll be driving to one of my sisters' for Thanksgiving, a trip that usually takes about three hours each way in traffic.  Last year the others in the minivan all brought their MP3 players and I burned a few CDs to listen to.  When I suggested doing the same this year my wife reserved a spot on the rear (third) seat -- farthest from the speakers.  ::)

When an airplane passes over at bedtime she asks, "Do you have music on?"

My wife has suffered from some health issues, and just recently in the last few months she's turned to some of the more 'esoteric' of treatments, things that I've been into for quite some time.  I've been an ambient fan for a long time, but before that she was lukewarm at best, maybe liking the occasional album.

We play a lot of softer or lighter ambient now in the house and she listens to it now while I do reiki treatments on her and other stuff.  We've listened to Alio Die, Robert Rich, Thom Brennan and some of the earthmantra artists together, even stuff like Oophoi's Mare Imbrium.   Along that path she also has discovered sound vibrational healing and so forth, and she's been listening to our figurative neighbor, the Boulder CO native Jonathan Goldman, and similar artists.  I remember Jim Brenholts frequently sung his praises as someone who's categorized as new age but 'crosses over' with the hardcore ambient fans.

It's odd that it happened this way, but now there's more healing-type music playing in the house than ever before.   Another piece in the puzzle of an ambient family in the making...
