NCAA football 2010
« on: December 03, 2010, 02:21:48 PM »
Most years we have a little discussion of college football around here. So far this year I've held off, but I can't wait any longer.  The Ducks are right on the verge!  Come on guys, just one more win (in the Civil War, against Oregon State).

Anybody else following college football this year?  You don't have to be a fan of a BCS-championship-bound team to comment.

I'm pulling for the Badgers to go to and win the Rose Bowl...unless, by some small miracle, they land in the BCS championship!  :o
May the odds be ever in your favor.

I'm not a huge football fan.  Would it be okay if I listened to some Michael Garrison instead?

The Ducks have been amazing this year. Chip Kelly really is an evil genius. The last few games, though, have been a little worrisome. Hope they can keep it together for the Civil War and bring their best game to the Championship.

And that video is hilarious, especially if you've seen the previous year's as well.

I have to pull for the Ducks. They have had an incredible season!  Being an Alabama fan, I can't root for Auburn. Go Ducks! Or, Horned Frogs, or ... Gotta love the BCS!!!

If Oregon, Auburn, TCU and Stanford all lost today, it would be a the craziest day of upsets in the history of college football.

I thought one "I Love My Ducks" music video was bad enough, and I shouldn't post both.

The story behind those videos is kind of funny. This group of students did the first one just for fun, and the UO athletic department was trying to insist they take it down (due to worries about infringements on the agreement with Disney about approved uses of the mascot), but it became more and more popular until finally Chip Kelly came out and said he loved the video (the first one) and watched it every day to get pumped-up before practice.  Eventually the athletic department relented and even let the Supwitchugirl people sell "I Love My Ducks" t-shirts. I've heard they made a huge amount of money from those shirts.

Oh, and Chip Kelly isn't evil!

You may be surprised to hear this, but most Ducks are hoping to meet Auburn in the BCS championship. Not because we don't respect the SEC, but because we figure if you're going to get some national respect, the best thing you can do is go in and beat an SEC team led by a Heisman winner.

If Auburn loses to SC today and Oregon wins and ends up facing TCU in the BCS title game, even if we win, people are going to be saying, "well, they just beat a mid-major team... wonder what they would have done against a traditional football powerhouse?"

Also there's a perception that TCU or Boise State (too late for them, though) would match up better against Oregon's speed & athleticism.  I'm not sure Auburn's defense could deal with it as well.

Evil in a good way, I meant!

Looks like the civil war is all but won, but Oregon's really gonna have to get it together for Auburn. They can't afford their usual number of penalties and turnovers.

I guess it's for real, now. Oregon versus Auburn in Glendale, Jan 10. It still hasn't sunk in at all. I thought I'd be excited, running around the house and yelling, but I feel wrung out. I kept waking up last night from dreams of losing to OSU in triple overtime on some kind last minute fumble. I'm sure I'll be excited by tomorrow.

Oh, and Ein Sophistry... Oregon's usual number of turnovers would be fine with me. The team leads the Pac 10 in turnover differential. They've had a few sloppy moments (such as the first quarter today) but normally give the ball up about half as often as they take it away.

We'll see about Auburn. I don't think they'll be a pushover by any means. They spanked a solid South Carolina team today. Statistically, Oregon's defense seems slightly better than Auburn's, and their offense seems quite a bit better.

It's not 2010 any more, but it's the same football season.

I'm heading home in 5 minutes to watch the BCS championship and I'm as nervous as if I was playing in the game myself. One of my co-workers (fellow Duck) said he couldn't even sleep last night.

Go Ducks!
