I don't normally love getting up at 5:30 AM but when the alarm went off this morning, my first thought was "I wonder how many spammers signed up on the forum overnight?" Not only did I spend much of yesterday working on the forum software upgrade, and the 'Stop Forum Spam' modification, but usually the first thing I do every morning while I drink my coffee is to sort through all the new accounts and usually delete ALL of them once I've discovered reason to believe they're not legit.
This morning I was very pleased to find not a single new account signed-up. I guess that sounds bad -- don't get me wrong, I'd love to have new "real" members sign up here any time. It's just that I'm so relieved not to have to spend my the first 10 or 20 or 30 minutes of my day checking IP addresses and email addresses and usernames against the spammer databases at Project Honeypot and stopforumspam.com. Instead, I can post a quick message here, and move on to other things.
Thanks, everybody, for keeping a positive attitude about the change. Every time I've changed the forum software before there have been complaints, but this is probably the one instance where the upgrade means no old forum content or features will be lost. Do feel free to keep passing on suggestions and feedback.
