Nintendo DSiXL vs. upcoming 3DS
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:06:44 AM »

Hey - I'm considering upgrading to a DSiXL for the larger screen size.   I know the resolution didn't improve - and it's heavier - I plan to go pick it up this weekend and see if it 'feels' right in my hands.

Anyone have one?   Thoughts?

I know the 3DS is coming out shortly - screen more on par with the DS lite I currently have (a tad bigger) - I have zero interest in 3D gaming.   My eyes are screwed up enough as it is... ;-)

I think this might be a better forum to probe for DS (sound-related) insights:

You might also consider getting an iPad or iTouch instead.
There's many more options for serious music making and the
apps are ridiculously cheap compared to the DS (or any computer).

They're also multi-touch. It's frustrating not being able to
play DS-10 keyboard and tweak the filter or whatever at the same time.

You can keep your DS to still run your current apps.
Win/win - except that you'll have to use iTunes.   >:(

I don't think John wants to make music on his DS. I think he wants to play 8,000 hours of Advance Wars!

I do like Advance Wars!

I'm mostly an rpg guy and strategy rpg's are cool as well.

Yes - this is strictly for laying in bed at the end of the day winding down to fall asleep.

The DS is nearly perfect in this for me - it's small - easy to hold - and easy to snap shut and put on my night stand and fall asleep.  :-)

I like the idea of a larger screen... not sure it'll work as well - but I like the idea in theory.  We'll see!

Ah!  All that said - that was great advice, Scott!

My wife has an iPad - and so far - I haven't really felt a connection to any of the music apps I've tried.  Hasn't "felt" right yet beyond some fun.    As a controller - I think the iPad and tablet devices are going to rule once they really kick into more development and pushing the boundaries!

Ok - bought the DSiXL - love the larger screen size.  It's not too large to hold - and wonderful to have that 93% larger screen size.  Much easier to see stuff.

The resolution is not better than a normal DS lite... so you can see some jaggies now and then on graphics... but so what?   :-)

Best Buy sales people and the check out person were both cool - both saying - hey - there's a new model coming in about a month are you sure you want this model?
