Music is one of my passions and obsessions. Despite my embracing files as a favored "format" for music distribution, I am also a sucker for special & limited editions of physical formats.

So despite my format preferences, please keep pumping out those unique, but not too expensive, limited editions.

I have the Xerrox series (currently two volumes available). And they come in over-sized sleeves.

Oophoi's "Time Fragments" Box Set was released several weeks ago by Practising Nature/Databloem, I think it was around January 14th. I also have posted small announcement about it on this forum at the same day. Link:

Unfortunately, the Box is most likely sold out already, but all 7 component pro CD-Rs of this set are available by Hypnos. For those living in Europe, CD-Rs are available by Databloem or directly from Gigi/Oophoi as signed copies.

I don't own this, but this is something I'd like to have; the Castle Sonorisation 3 CD Box by Alio Die. Seems really nice and limited to 99 copies on top of that.

Hi headonist, if you can get the "Castles Sonorisation's Series" Box Set, go for it, I think Stefano has still available some of them. Each one comes with unique mosaic and packaged in handmade box, I can only recommend it to each collector and Alio Die fan!!!

I would probably have gotten it, if it weren't for the fact that I already have all three releases in the Castle series as individual releases.

That should be no problem. I was in the same situation and ordered mine from Stefano with a few other releases and he put those releases into the box instead of the original ones...

Yes, just the same for me as mentioned by Wanterkeelt, so get in contact with Stefano and I am sure he will find some reasonable solution for you.

Took some pics of my Chain Reaction CDs since the packeging in metal boxes are quite nice and unusual.

The titles are:
Monolake - Hongkong (their best output!)
Porter Ricks - Biokinetics
Vainqueur – Elevations

Be careful with those discs. A few years back, some folks on the ambient list complained that the CDs in their Chain Reaction tray packages had split. I have a Baked Beans CD on Recycle or Die with a similar metal tray.

That metal tin edition of Quaristice was very limited & went like hotcakes upon initial release. I've since looked for it and it now fetches insane bucks, so for the time being I'm cool with the subsequent regular edition. But the metal version (w/extra disc) is tempting.

Re, those Chain Reaction discs: yep, the cracking in the inner ring was a major prob - my copy of the Porter Ricks has a few cracks but still plays okay. I tend to let the discs just sit loose in the can in order to avert further damage; and as it sits quietly on the shelf, it doesn't get any worn, regardless. :), however, keeping the disc in a paper sleeve & then in the tin works fine, too.

I've found that the Recycle or Die tins didn't compromise the integrity of the CDs as much as the CR tins - not sure why.

Curious - how is it the discs crack in those metal tins? I have a few CDs in those packages but the holder ring is rubbery and seems flexible enough. I'll let them loose just to be sure though.

The CR releases that had problems with cracking have a metal post that the disc is pressed onto. The metal is not flexible enough and every time you put the disc into the case or take it out, it puts stress on the hole in the disc. Lots of people have reported radial cracks starting from the hole in their CR discs, and I'd really recommend either keeping the disc in an envelope inside the case (not on the metal post), or at least making a CDR backup that you keep somewhere safe.
