Field Recording Livestream

One of my dreams in the category "technically impossible at the moment" is the idea of having a network of microphones all around the world (in deserts, in the arctic, on a buoy in the middle of the ocean, and so on) which stream their input to the internet in high quality and you can access them all the time (wouldn't that be great?).
Of course this isn't feasible yet (power consumption, maintenance, network uplink, costs ...), but as a first step into that dream, I mounted a very cheap unused microphone outside one of my windows and stream it to my server using an unused laptop.
Maybe that's boring for most people, but I love to listen to it - even if the quality of that system is worse than bad:

That's great! I was enjoying listening to that. Somebody on the forum had a link to an aeolian harp somewhere in Europe, I think Germany, that was really neat to listen to. That's a great idea to have them all over the world.

The aeolian harp is in the same city (Ulm, South Germany) as the field recording livestream. It's actually not mine, it's a donation to the university (it is located on the campus) by a friend of mine. I just set up the streaming.

I really like that idea. I enjoy listening to these field recordings of yours as much as I do recorded, composed ambient music. Especially when working or surfing on my computer.

All sounds recorded by PALAOA are send via WLAN to the Neumayer station and from there to Bremerhaven. Here you can listen to what can be heard in the Antarctic Sea.
Due to the long signal path of 15,000 km the live stream  might experience delays or downtimes. In that case you will be hearing the latest recordings of the last days. If the broadcast shouldn't work at all please try again later or listen to our selection of examples: animal noises or ice sounds

Excellent.  I just added this stream as a favorite to my music server and I have it going all over the house. 

No one has commented on the content.  There are some hauntological howls and  massive thumps.  It's quite interesting: a portal into intense climatological extremes and isolation.

This is an interesting site. The sounds are a lot different than what I expected. They are a bit harsher than I thought they would be.
