'Ocean Sighs' new Igneous Flame album released
« on: September 26, 2016, 07:12:16 AM »
After almost 18 months since I released my last album, I’m very pleased to say that I have a new one to release !
I had to push through quite a block with this one and hopefully now, I will be able to release another one towards the ends of the year too and get back on track with other projects, Igneous related.

Ocean Sighs’ is a selection of ‘ambient seascapes’ which incorporate tonal drone textures and harmonic vocalisations, set against a continuous ebb and flow of treated ocean sounds. The two elements were equally considered in the construction of the tracks and are intended to be complimentary.

I downloaded it earlier this evening and was able to listen to a few tracks with headphones. Lovely stuff!

Many thanks 'chris23' ! Thanks also to Bert and Forrest for your interest too.

I didn't want to make too much of it in the press release / blurb, but I envisaged this one as being a sleep album of sorts.

Really enjoying this Pete...good to hear the powerful ebb and flow of the ocean surface when many want to express the silence within.  The Vox pieces are wonderful....I would not of imagined a thing like the voice working against or with the sound energy of the ocean...brilliant as is the space your binaural recording make especially with a subject so vast.

Even after going through a hurricane I thought I would be overwhelmed by more ocean sounds...Nah, Im surfer mate, bring it on. ;)...serious Pete, its excellent!

Cheers Julio,

The vox pieces took some doing and I'd gotten to the point with the whole project where i didn't know what to make of it all, so it's great to hear it works  for you (and others) !

Hi Pete,

I've been slammed with work lately, so I haven't had the chance to burn your album to CDR for home stereo listening, but will do so soon.  I've liked what I've heard so far via streaming.

Hi Pete,

Finally got around to listening to "Ocean Sighs" through headphones on my home hi-fi, and it's a really nice one.  In places, it has almost a hymnal quality to it.  It still has the stamp of your drifting ambient style, but in places, closer to a song-like form.  Well done!

Just finished it and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. The ocean sounds didn't feel cliche and it feels spiritual and heavenly without being cheesy. Congratulations on the new album.

'Ocean Sighs' reviewed by John Shanahan at Hypnagogue:

https://hypnagogue.net/2017/01/22/igneous-flame-ocean-sighs/

Very well considered review methinks.

Extract:

'Ocean Sighs is almost a bit of a throwback album, a reminder of the early days of New Age, where blending quiet synth with the sound of waves would not have been unusual. But I do find it a touch unusual for Igneous Flame, whose work tends to find a comfortable spot between darkness and warmth, with little room for these kinds of standard tropes. Don’t get me wrong–I’m not complaining. On this album Pete Kelly runs the wave sounds through some treatments, adds binaural and vocal harmonic elements, and gives as much weight to the waves as he does to his drones. The result is a set of very deep pieces, absolutely relaxing (especially in headphones) and ready for long looping...'
