Hello Hypnos!
« on: April 11, 2008, 12:07:34 PM »
I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Andrew and I record experimental/electronic/ambient music under the moniker Rhizomorph. I will be posting a "debut album" thread soon in the non-Hypnos artists forum, but for now I just wanted to say hello and pay tribute to the Hypnos world. The Hypnos label artists have been a deep influence on my musical perception and aesthetic sense.

I hope you are all having wonderful spring days...

Let me beat Andrew to the punch a little....his disk "Xenofilika" is a great listen. I reviewed it late last year, and said: "Throw Shadowfax and Planet Drum into the same room, close the door and let them jam. The result will undoubtedly sound a lot like Rhizomorph." Very nice stuff. Welcome, Rhizomorph!

i have to agree with hypnagogue - this is a cool cd! (i don't know about shadowfax and planet drum, though. is pd mickey hart's stuff?) there are lots of different styles here. when andrew finds his niche - look out!
all the best and God bless

Thanks everyone.

Jim and John, thank you for the very nice reactions... and Jim, that is an astute observation about niche. I do admit that the CD is sort of all over the map (compared to dedicated ambient albums). I'm happy to say though that at the end of it all, the ambient tunes on there are the ones that touch me the most when I listen back  to them.

I think I had a lot of absorbed ethno-trance type influences that were going to spill out no matter what, and I just let them spill forth on  Xenofilika and they almost took over. I believe I got it out of my system though and on the next one, I will seek my niche in the more tranquil realms.

"Niche" is an interesting concept here, and hearing the word makes me think about the fact that it does play a role, even in electronic music. One can't be shooting for the "Sgt Pepper's" album each time---it would wear people out!

cheers,
Rhizomorph
