Northwest Passage Mixtape
« on: December 06, 2012, 04:15:56 AM »
I'm about to begin researching the lost Franklin expedition, as well as polar exploration in the Victorian age, for a film project and I'm looking for music that will help me establish a headspace for my work. It can be spooky; that would be great! Just think of the isolation, the cold, the starvation, the animal attacks. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try Simon Fisher Turner's soundtrack to "The Great White Silence."  The film is about a doomed British expedition to the South Pole.

"erebus & terror" by David Bickley and Tom Green    It's very good and was released on the h/s label.

There's also "Terror & Erebus", a verse drama for radio (1965) by the great Canadian poet Gwendolyn MacEwen which has a 2000 CBC production with soundscapes by Darren Copeland. This will be hard to find though.

Take care.

If you're looking for something a bit more prog and epic, I'd go for David Bedford's Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
