Yep, the big day. Think I will record and watch it later when I can skip the ads.

Anyone see it?  I thought the season 4 premiere was pretty good.

It lacked the "OMFG" factor of some previous premieres & finales, and it's been such a LONG time since season 3 ended that I found myself a bit confused why everyone looked the same, until I remembered "Oh yeah, it's the same day for these guys, even though I've gotten married and had a birthday, since I last saw them."

Overall, though, it was a good, solid Lost episode, and I have a feeling the next few episodes should be really good.  It'll be disappointing to have only an 8 episode 4th season, as appears likely to be the case.

Being that I live without a TV (on purpose) the only series I get to watch are ones I rent from Netflix. I keep hearing about this show. What's the basic premise? Is it a reality show?

I recorded yesterday, but have not seen it yet.

Basic premise : passenger airline crashes on 'deserted tropical island'. Its about the survivors. The island is not exactly a normal place, and its not deserted.

No, not a reality show.  The basic premise is that an airplane crashes on an island, and the survivors try to deal with life on the island, even as they figure out that the island is no ordinary island.  It has a bit of "survival" aspect but a lot more strangeness and mystery.

I don't watch any TV shows in "real time" normally, either.  In fact, the money we pay for basic cable starts to seem like a waste when the cable box is not even connected to the TV (since I can use that HDMI connection for my Playstation 3 for slightly better picture quality) for months at a time.  But Lost is worth tuning in and sitting through commercials, in my opinion.

Finished watching it today (we're both on a bit of an odd "snow day" situation - most of the Peoria area shut down last night/this morning - although roads are fine now...).

Anyway - it was a really good episode.   As usual, opening up a few new questions...

Jim/Gemini - a really good show - the first disc you rent from netflix will have you rivoted.   Oceanic Flight 815 crashes onto an island in the middle of nowhere... they soon realize the island is more than meets the eye - with lots of weird mysteries.   The show alternates between the 'present' on the island and flashbacks to before the island where you find that many of the characters have crossed paths before.

We had the premier of season 4 last night.    The series will end with 6 seasons.  They had planned seasons 4, 5, and 6 to be 16 episodes each with a definite ending.   Unfortunately the current writers strike will limit the number of episodes this season.

You'll either love it or hate it - almost everyone I know that gives it a chance loves it.

Note - it's a series that is all tied together like a long novel - you can't really jump into the middle.

Sounds like something I'd definitely enjoy.

I have to watch the Twin Peaks series as well; my friend Javier almost had an attack when he learned I never saw it when I was younger.  lol

Thanks for the info!

Just finished watching season 3 on the computer last night. Absolutely amazing! I'm already feeling the withdrawals, and as I don't own a TV, will have to wait for season 4 on dvd. Does anyone know when this will come out? How long does it usually take for the show dvd to come out after the season has finished?

Usually something like 6-10 months.  TV shows have a bad pattern of coming out on DVD right before the next season starts, so that you have to hurry through the DVDs if you want to switch over to watching "live" on the air.  Lost Season 3 came out on DVD not more than a few months ago, and Season 4 debuted this week.

Next episode of Season 4 tonight.  It's weird for me to be excited about sitting down for a scheduled TV program, certain day, certain time... but excited I am!

I hear ya, Mike; my wife and I both get antsy waiting for each new episode.

I haven't had TV since I moved in mid November (absolutely no reception here, and I hate to pay for Dish Network); Lost is the only thing I miss.  We watched the season premier at ABC's website; kinda tiny on the laptop monitor, but good enough to get the story. ;D

I'll have to watch it later tonight, when ABC posts it at the site.  Let's see...  popcorn? check...  Beer? check...  ok, let's go!

I taped it (wow - that's weird - I recorded it to dvd-rw... taped seems so 'right' though...) - anyway.   Both of us are a bit sick and went to bed.  We'll watch this weekend - can't wait!

What do other Lost-watchers think, now that we're 5 episodes (it is 5, isn't it?) into the season?

I think it's great -- the best sustained stretch we've seen at least since the very beginning, and possibly ever.  And I think the mind-bending mystery stuff was easier in season 1, because it was all totally new and weird.  This latest stretch is going really strong, in my opinion.

I agree; this season has been great.  Thank the writer's strike; 16 episodes condensed into 8 really keeps the plot moving!

I can't say I 'get it' by any means, but some things are starting to reveal their connections.  I just hope they can keep this up, and not go back to the slower pace of years past.

They'll be doing 5 more episodes this season (see lostpedia for more info).   Condensing down the last 8 planned into a 5 episode arc.  They'll split the remaining planned episodes into the last couple of seasons since they have an order for a specific amount of episodes.

I think the real key to why the writing has been so good this season is they had a definite end to the series now negotiated with ABC with a planned 16 episodes per season (and airing them in order instead of that horrid fiasco with season 2 and the trickle of new episodes...)

And yes - absolutely - this season has been very strong and the last episode with Desmond was brilliant.   Season three ended very strong and season four is topping it.  :)

How's the 6th person going to be???

Haven't we already seen all 6 of the people who left the island?  Maybe you're not counting Ben, or Aaron?

Aaron was #5 by Heidi and my count...  Ben was already on the island and not an Oceanic 815 survivor.

Oh - whoops - Aaron may not count as he was born on the island.

http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Oceanic_six

It says all six will be revealed by the 7th episode.
