is all people here artists, where did all people go ?
« on: November 18, 2013, 08:10:03 AM »
I wonder really, how many % of the forum members are artists themselves seem to be a forum for artists for sure :)

I have not been here since 2009 little bit  sad to see that it is a lot less activity here now..where did people go ?

Personally I have been listening to less ambient the last few years I must admit, there is a lot less good ambient released in my opinion.
And ever since Steve Roach did move to his new home and new studio I do not think he have produced any amazing stuff to be honest..
Same goes with Robert Rich he have not released much good last few years, but I must admit the Nest album was really good.

Anyway I hope more people come back it is a nice community for sure. quite unique.

This forum has always had times of more activity, and other times of less. It's true that overall, people don't visit forums like this as much, now that social media is more of a big thing. People are more inclined to interact on Facebook, Twitter and things like that.

It does seem like a lot of the people who post here are recording artists, but I think that's a good thing. This is one of my favorite places to ask questions and get advice about technical things, for that reason.

I like that, too. On my social media sites, most of my friends are not interested in ambient music or music making and recording gear or techniques. On a forum such as this , I tend to know more about the people posting and their expertise. It is amazing to me how knowledgeable Hypnos forum members are about so many different subjects.
Never regret money spent on old books, old dogs or old friends.

A good percentage of the forum members are musicians though I feel its a nice mix of ambient music listens and producers.  The lack of forum members really shows itself when IMHO interesting threads come up and the usual suspects respond and the thread dies at about 8 or so replies....we end up talking to ourselves.  Now this does not actually reflect the amount of people that visit the Hypnos forum.  Some topics have immense viewing numbers.  It would be nice if more viewer became active.

I stay away from Facebook and Twitter though I have accounts.

Julio, you raise a good point - posts and topics on this forum continue to get quite a lot of views.

In this past when this has come up, or when I've spoken up and reminded "lurkers" of the need to contribute in order to keep this forum vital, we've had a surge of activity... lurkers speaking up, all kinds of people creating new topics, and for a while everything is buzzing. That proves people are reading. For whatever reason, though, many people seem content to just read the topics, perhaps seeking a little quick diversion during the day, and don't feel motivated to post anything.

It isn't that I don't wish more people would post, but I don't think I'm really helping the forum by nagging or pushing people to contribute more. I wouldn't want to visit a forum where the administrators constantly made me feel guilty for lurking.

Once in a while, a topic comes along that really gets people fired up. At times like that, we see how many people are actually reading.

I love the fact that a lot of the regulars here are musicians. That's one of the reasons why I started posting here. And the ones who aren't are quite knowledgeable too.

The "show us your studio pics" that Jesse (Numina) started was one that I recall had some 53,000 views and maybe more by now....thats just staggering.  That many gearsultz?  I guess its also interesting for ambient listen to see where the music they may listen to is recorded.

Actually I find that when your very active on the Forum Mike the participation goes up....thats probably because you say a lot in the context of a thread which can lead to extedted discussions.  Must be the writer in you. ;)

I will have to write more here!

If you ever want to trigger a lot of discussion, and posts from people who usually only lurk, start a topic about piracy, or one saying Steve Roach is overrated, or arguing about Mac vs. Windows. Those always get people worked-up.

Too bad this forum doesn't have a "like" button, as on Facebook. ;) Good one.

Steve Roach is over-rated, Vangelis is complete crap, Prometheus is a REALLY SHITTY movie, and New Age Music is not the devils's spawn but actually can be really cool.

How's that?  ;)
May the odds be ever in your favor.

I think the use of the words 'How's that?' is really offensive  :o

To make a quite dark comment….probably "passing threads" are probably the most active ones when people get active to post. Not much surprising but still a bit strange in my view

Sorry, just a listener, not an artist.

On the one hand things have gotten ... well, not "busier" but different, and I don't get to show up here as often as I once did.

On the other hand, I'm now making regular 8 hour round trips to New England, and I'm listening to more Ambient, Electronic, and Space music than ever!  (See, every cloud, and all that.)

Note to self: The next time I want to stimulate a busy period of activity on the forum, ask someone to post a topic asking "Where did all the people go on this forum?"

No...some of his stuff is okay...but IMO he IS totally over-rated and a bit self-important about his own musical impact. Just my two cents. I couldn't use the words "over-rated" to describe him because Steve Roach already took that title. ;) ::)

Don't pay too much attention to what I write. Everyone who knows me knows my opinions of who is great and who is over-rated are all out of whack with everyone else. For example, I think Jeff Pearce, as loved as he is here and among his fans, is actually UNDER-RATED. I think Jeff is a freakin' genius when you examine his entire body of work. Why he isn't every bit as revered as Roach and Rich (which is NOT a knock on Steve and Robert, both of whom are also brilliant) is a mystery to me. Just my two cents.
