2013 Favorite Albums("normal" music)
« on: December 30, 2013, 09:25:09 AM »
Every year I come up with two lists of favorites, one of ambient/electronic music & one of "normal" music.  By normal I mean music that may actually be played on the radio.   Indie, alternative, rock, Americana, whatever you want to call it, most of my list would be played only on college or indie stations, not regular commercial radio.

I have just realised that the only "normal" album I purchased that was released in 2013 was;

Black Sabbath 13 , which is very good indeed.

My listening has been increasingly dominated by electronic and especially ambient in the past 2/3 years which is quite surprising as I am a massive Prog and Rock fan.

So the above album is my list  ;) for this topic.

Not to quote you thirdsystem but I really enjoyed Black Sabbath's comeback album 13. Powerful. I will be going to the Hollywood Bowl in April to try and take OZZy's vocals. Not sure how he's going to do live.

I didn't buy a lot of "normal" music either, thridsystem. My favorite non-ambient release of 2013 was, without a doubt, Vampire Weekend 's Modern Vampires of the City.

Sabbath 13 is a cracker, powerful and reminiscent of the great 70s albums. My young lad saw them live in 2012. Couldn't believe he got to see one of my bands from my young unruly days  ;) Enjoy the Hollywood gig, hope Ozzy manages ok, been off the rails again apparently .

I did buy the Boards Of Canada album on vinyl. Haven't listened to it sufficiently yet but it is a good one.

Vampire Weekend is not a band I am familiar with, will check them out.

If it plays on the radio is not a good sign, except if it's ambient related, we have some of that here in my country, it was magical because it was ambient but theme based, like ex, hey let's make a theme about Franz Kafka and put some ambient that goes well with the ''Process''. Pure awesomeness.
