Austin TX Record Store Suggestions
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:35:40 PM »
Anyone on the forums familiar with good record stores in Austin, TX? I'll be there for a few days this week. Wouldn't mind hitting something that has a good selection of ambient, new age, em, world, etc.

I haven't been to Austin, but based on what I've seen of them on the the net, I'd recommend End of An Ear:

I picked up an obscure Adam Pacione release from them not too long ago.

You must go to Waterloo Records on North Lamar. It's legendary in Austin. Ask almost anyone and they'll be able to tell you where it is. After that try Cheapo Discs and Records further down the street. I often find surprises there, as well. Have fun!

End of An Ear looks interesting. I'll check that out on my next trip to Austin. That's funny that a guy from the west coast has to tell me aout a record store 65 miles from me. ;D Thanks, Forrest!

My pleasure, Harry (and Chris)!  Yes, that 's funny.  Guess I was attracted to the store because it was named after a Robert Wyatt album.  We have pretty good record stores out here in the Bay Area, too, like Amoeba.

I managed to visit both End of an Ear and Waterloo during my visit. Both were great stores, but End of an Ear was a truly special treat. They had a great selection of classic and modern experimental, ambient, and electronic music. It was nice to have a physical browsing experience again!

I appreciate the tips, guys.
