Years ago, I'd spend way too much cash on CDs and DVDs on a regular basis. As a result, my collection was filled with mostly mediocre content that I only listened or watched once before placing on a shelf, forgotten. Now, my CD/Blu-ray purchases (and downloads, both free and paid) are very selective. I won't buy something on a whim, and my collection is much better for it.
As to how much I spend? I'll probably purchase one or two physical discs every few months, and purchase downloads (almost exclusively Bandcamp) a few times a month. I'm especially selective when it comes to free downloads since there's so much out there. The music needs to impact me on the first listen, otherwise it goes in the trash.
