Hey all,
Steve quietly released an album for this morning's blood moon via Bandcamp.

It's a beautiful, brooding 70-minute long-play. Check it out.  :)

Couldn't sleep and saw the e-mail for this. Listening now, waiting for the sun to rise. This is definitely a headphone journey.

Great piece.  I would bet this will show up on CD in the future.

Very nice compilation, Mike. I picked that up, too.  :)
Yeah, it seems to be a hit. It was an honour to be part of it.

As a follow-up, Steve's web site has begun taking pre-orders for the full 4-CD release of Bloodmoon Rising in September. I'm sure the complete digital release will also be available on Bandcamp and the other usual sites.

First impressions of this 4 disc set:

The artwork and packaging is awesome on this.

I would describe the music as a cross between Mystic Chords and Slow Heat.. it's "quiet" electronic music that's actually pretty f**kn loud.  Huge massive walls of drones ebb and flow with spacious modular oscillations weaving in and out.

Disc 1:  amazing track.  Best of the set.  I like how it morphs into something else towards the conclusion.  A really inspired piece.

Discs 2 &  3:  a little samey, not as good as disc 1.  Some melodic motifs but overall a lot of abstract drifting.

Disc 4:  this sounds like looping the tail end of a track above so it's more like a billowy aftermath of previous intensity.  A bit boring but these are just first impressions.

How do you know the "CD sales decline does not create much motivation for Steve"?  I don't think you'd know without asking him directly.  Same with the new vs old  sound.  I agree, I like the old better but how do you know the reason for the change?  Is it by intentional design, new gear, or..

You should definitely give this disc another listen. It starts dark and rumbling, but around the 26 minute mark there's a moment of silence and then shifts to an entirely different direction.

I've found these four discs to be a vast improvement of Steve's long-form work of late. Very dynamic, emotive, mysterious, inspired. I deeply enjoyed it from the first listen. A rare occurrence for me.

I can't find the article, but I read that Steve moved away from Tucson to avoid the city noise and the noise of the civilian and military aircraft based near Tucson.
Can't blame him for wanting to find a quieter location to live and work in.

After phenomenal "Invisible", here comes another milestone in long-form soundcarving, bravo, Maestro!!! Journeying since Friday, still a lot of deep listening sessions ahead, but the first impressions are profoundly enrapturing. It arrived just in time for the total lunar eclipse and with included "Bloodmoon Rising" coaster, now even fresh IPA can be served!!! Enjoy the magic, both visual and aural!!! Cheers!!! ;)

I agree, Richard.  It's a very nice set.  Even better than his Immersion series, I think.

Did anyone else geek-out and listen to Disc 4 while watching the lunar eclipse last night? My daughter and I shared some ear buds as we gazed at the sky. It was lovely.

No but I listened to Disc 4 tonight and it was awesome.  The first 20 minutes kind of drifts nowhere but it picks up with a beautiful mood.  Might be my fave now of the set.
