New work and changes...
« on: June 30, 2008, 01:42:17 AM »
My self-release imprint 'Chillfactor10 records' is no more. It was something
that I inherited and I think its outlived its purpose. I've set up a new label
with UK based artist 'Achromus' called 'LuminaSounds' The website is at an
early stage of development, but I'm adding content daily.
It's here: http://www.luminasounds.com

I've made a link to the Chillfactor10 site which I'm keeping 'alive' as an archive
as theres a fair bit of info there.

Achromus and myself will be releasing two albums in July, 'Flicker' and 'HALO'
We've set up a MySpace profile for the collaboration:
http://www.myspace.com/igneousflameandachromus

'Flicker' will be released as a CD-R on 'LuminaSounds', and 'HALO' will be
released as a download on AtmoWorks.
More info to follow...

cheers
Pete

HALO will be both a 320 kbps download as well as a CDR made and sold through Hypnos.   :)

Thanks for the comment, Ben  :)

Here's some more info about the upcoming releases:

The Collaboration
‘Flicker’ and ‘HALO‘ came out of a collaboration between UK based ambient artists, Igneous Flame (Pete Kelly) and Achromus (Michael Stringer). In February 2007, Michael gave Pete a pool of synth based material that he had been working on and Pete produced the albums ‘Flicker’ and ‘HALO’ from that pool. The material became split into two, the more sonorous material was reworked and guitar textures were incorporated, this material became the ‘Flicker’ album. The other darker and more ‘raw’ material was extensively processed and this resulted in the ‘HALO’ album. Some of the original material has been used in both albums - albeit in a ‘Re-cycled’ manner.

‘Flicker’
The more accessible of the two releases, ‘Flicker’ is primarily tonal with an under-current of ethereal mystery and depth. Constructed from Achromus’s synth textures and Igneous Flame’s e-bow guitar lines and abstracted harmonic shapes, melodic phrases are woven around tonally shifting soundscapes. The album’s dark luminosity shines throughout.

'Accumulator' (full track 4:23) http://www.petekelly.eclipse.co.uk/luminasounds/accumulator.mp3

‘HALO’
‘HALO’ is a hypnotic, visceral and primarily textural long-form work, vivid in colour and dynamics, ranging from intensely industrial to pastoral with an underlying esoteric subtlety present throughout.A significant element of the album is the result of extensive sound-design and spatial processing, for which headphone listening is recommended.

I'm chuffed to say that...

Igneous Flame and Achromus have now released their two collaborative 'sister' albums, 'Flicker' and 'HALO'

'Flicker' is a CD release and is available from the LuminaSounds site:
http://luminasounds.com
and from CDBaby here (with all tracks streamed for your listening perusal)
http://cdbaby.com/cd/igneousflame8
It will be available as a download from all the major sites soon.

'HALO' has been released on AtmoWorks and is available as a download on their site here (cheers 'John's' !)
http://atmoworks.ning.com/
It will be released as a CDr through Hypnos shortly.

A lot of work went into these albums and I have to say I'm rather proud as to how they've turned out !

cheers
Pete

These are sounding absolutely gorgeous...

And whoever chose the cover art has impeccable taste. Kati is such an inspiring artist!   http://ooookatioooo.deviantart.com/

Cheers 9 Dragons,

I chose Kati's artwork. Yes, she is a fantastic artist and has done the covers for quite a few ambient artist's albums (Numina comes to mind) and recently for the British 'Doom-metal' band, 'Esoteric'.

The tree image was her Myspace avatar for some time and I think it's a very strong image.

I'm extremely behind on getting official 'announcements' out there about this release and the Mark Tamea album... hopefully I'll get it tonight!

HALO is a wonderful album - I truly enjoy it and I hope it gets the exposure it deserves.    (especially once I get to advertising it! )

I recommend Halo to anyone who likes darker ambient. A deep and vaporous sonic trail...
And of course, headphones are highly recommended.

Thanks Joe, it's appreciated  :)

'HALO' was kind of a side-project to the 'Flicker' album, I approached it in a more 'experimental'
fashion and incorporated some spatial processes I'd developed / stumbled across.
There's some processed binaural stuff on there as well.

cheers

Just heard from Misha over at the New Age Sampler (WWSP) radio show that 'Flicker' was #1 in his
November top 20. 'HALO' was #1 in his September top 20 listing.

He posts these charts over at 'Ambient visions':
http://www.ambientvisions.com/charts.htm

I know some people may tire of hearing artists 'big themselves up' with reference to such things,
but this is the kind of feedback that encourages me to 'keep at it'. I know 'Achromus' (man of
mystery) is very chuffed too !

I got Flicker in the mail today.  I think there's some confusion about CD vs. CDR on this one that should maybe be cleared up (at least on the Hypnos store).  Early posts (see above) indicated it would be on CDR, and a later one stated CD.  In the Hypnos store it is not indicated this is a CDR.  Some people may care one way or the other (I don't), so for their sake maybe it would be helpful to edit the listing. :-)

'Flicker' is a CD-R. The company who made the discs use a particular Sony silver disc that have
bar-codes on them, so they actually look like pressed CDs.
