Unfortunately, the overdub feature on Live only appears to allow looping of MIDI, and not incoming audio, though I guess you might be able to find a VST plugin that would do the same thing within Live.

Are there any Ambiloop users here? I did a search but couldn't find any reference.

This is one of the best pieces of software out there and the new version (1.70) throws an incredible new set of tools into the mix.

And it's free! ...for quite possibly the most powerful looping tool out there.

The author of Ambiloop deserves an award of some kind for making such a good program that's only 400KB! I like the realtime filters, lfo and effects too, can't beat the price! I like building up a layered loop on my POD then record that into Ambiloop and start another, and another, etc.

Steve

I may have posted this before, but the author is Chris MacDonald, aka Telomere, who happens to write some of the most brilliant space ambient music you will ever hear.  He also works at Blizzard as a coder, on World of Warcraft.  He's an amazingly nice guy, and I'm not surprised he managed something as brilliant as squeezing Ambiloop into 400KB.

Ambiloop is good for recording & playing multiple loops.
Live is good for playing/triggering loops, but is it good for recording them ?

Yes, I used it for recording only ... (Ambiloop save .wav files).

In my work "Mellow Stasis" I done loops (tracks) elaborations afterward:

1. live recording (overdubbing) with Ambiloop
2. Successive track time-shift with any multitrack audio editor

The problem I discovered on release 1.6 was a clipping on sound-on-sound
with "random" clipping peaks ... I didn't understnd if was a I/O problem  or a sw bug (in my modest opinion something relating to real-time buffering...). I raised the bug to Chris, very kind person in facts, that endorsed my music too. At that times (2/3 years ago probably he din't have too much time to evolve / bug fix Ambiloop)

Now I think the best support for us (Ambiloop users)
is to feedback him to the forum he opened: http://ambiloop.com/forum/index.php

I got my Boss DD-20 with Looping Function and when i am
on my Mac i use Ableton. But most of the time i use the
Looping Function of my Boss. Pretty Good.

Me too I use a DD-20, not to open a discussion anti-Boss
but honestly DD-20 looping function (overdub) is really poor.

Personally I also hate the "without personality" of the filtered sound of this device,
and the lack of "intelligence" in a device not so cheap ...
Anyway, as usual, is up to the musician to get the best from a tool ;)

thanks
giorgio

By the way Solyaris, I'm listening to your music right now on myspace, and loving it. Endless Labyrinth is the piece.  It's gorgeous, with beautiful shimmering guitar sounds looping all over each other.

It reminds me a little of Alio Die- as in his collaboration with Jack and Jive "Meyjiu"

Well done!

thanks you Deepspace! :) if you would like to write a note via e-mail pheraps, with your feelings/comments I'll publish on my website with your site link (I just reading now).

I know personally Stefano (Alio Die); his music have been always a point of reference for me.
I'm just listening now his "Raag Drone Theory" (collaboration with Zeit)!

- "Operatively", I share with Stefano the idea to realize soundscapes (in Electronic music) starting from acoustic waves elaborations ... instead of use synths ...
BTW, just to remain in topic, Stefano use (used) loop processing as main structural tool to realize art
(see his first "Under Holy Ritual"); even if, I hate this definition of him (I listened too much times by "critics"); because the his art is in blending magmas ...

- "Philosophically", the reasons I love Alio Die Music is the inspiration by the land, the living small creatures and a myth (in the more positive sense) of an ancient world ...
Maybe his music is more attached to the Earth consciousness "calm"...
whereas my music is try to explore the "wanderer" ...
difficult to say :)

All in all, Alio Die along with Steve Roach is almost the only artist always playng on my hi-fi ... :)

ciao

you know ... the risks of climbing ... this mania to achieve the exctasy :)

Please note that in "Wanderer" http://solyaris.altervista.org/wanderer.htm I didn't used Ambiloop (that indeed I used only in "Mellow Stasis"); my last work have been realized in long sound-on-sound recording sessions ...

i thought the samples on your page sounded pretty complex for something like ambiloop to cope with.
