I just built a gaming PC recently with Windows 10 on it. Windows is what I grew up with and it's the only serious choice for PC gaming at this point.
That being said, I've used Macs in college and work and they worked fine for me. OSX is pretty stable and it's not too hard to find things after a little while of getting used to it. I like how all updates are free but you've essentially paid for it through the overpriced hardware. Not only is their hardware far too expensive for the amount of performance you're typically getting, they're really hard to upgrade and repair by yourself like others have already pointed out.
Plus, if you really want to avoid viruses, just get a Chromebook or install Linux (particularly an accessible distro like Ubuntu or Mint). Ubuntu isn't bad for basic computing nowadays.
