Oh come on, this thing is gorgeous.
And sounds wonderful, especially with the Arturia special additions.

Yes.
It's based on a synth from the early 70s.

A hardware version is still available, but around $5,000 US.

Hi Anthony...thanks for the heads up on this!

I dowloaded the demo.....man that is impressive. I can't recall a soft synth quite as sonically powerful.  Im no Buchla expert but this has something authentically BUchla about it to my ears

Arturia's modeling is well know and I think I started a thread about their Matrix 12 which was pretty decent but this is in another league.

Its a cpu hungry beast on my laptop, especially in poly mode as it glitches out my cpu....;-)

Kudos to Arturia for having a really playable demo version that last 20 minutes.

Perhaps Harry can give some insight into the sonic comparison though from what I have experienced playing the demo it is a creative experimental software instrument that will expand the legacy beyond the questionable future of the hardware Buchla Easel.

I'm going to try the Arturia demo this weekend. I had already pretty much decided to put my Easel up for sale. Not an easy decision. It is a lot of fun, but I keep thinking of what else i can get with that money. It is my most expensive piece of gear and I don't really use it as much as I thought I would.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

Hi Harry. I envy you the Easel. Tis a thing of great beauty and individual expression.
Tad too expensive, for sure. But, ignoring Eurorack, the only synth I have wanted in recent years.
It's a work of art. Visually.

The Arturia is a reasonably satisfying substitute. Certainly capable and inventive.

I also wanted the Roland AIRA System 1M for quite some time, which I just bought.
It is a lovely little thing.
Like writing on roughed up vellum. Drawing on partchement. So personal and minutely expressive.
Sorta eurorack, but still understandable ... and relatively inexpensive.

I must say The Easel is on my short list of synths as I have now gotten out of the madness of Eurorack,  Yep, sold the lot.....but thats a story for a different thread.

The Easel certainly has an ambient group of performers......check out this Irish electronic musicians https://donnachacostello.bandcamp.com/music I have 2 releases, "Love from Dust" and "Stay perfectly Still", both performed live recordings on a Buchla Easel.  Very inspiring music and completely melodic and not your expected west coast sound of Subtonick and company though I don't actually think he used an Easel. ::)

I look forward to your Eurorack withdrawl story Julio!

I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I bought a Nord Modular G2 last summer to try to divert me from getting into Euro. It's definitely a different experience from physical patching and knobbing but a reasonable compromise. I do confess to buying a few used Roland Aira Euro Effects modules last month though after learning how they can be reprogrammed inside like mini modulars.

Now back to the current topic... I have a Toronto friend lusting for an Easel, so let me know if any of you come to the selling point.
