Following on from his warmly received cdr releases of 2007, ‘Obadiah’ is the second full length album by Apalusa, aka Nottingham based musician Dan Layton.

Over the course of 50 minutes, these three long-form tracks focus on darker territory than previous releases, with sub-bass rumbles and minor-key chord progressions augmenting the multiple layers of Apalusa’s trademark processed guitar drones and field recordings to form an all-encompassing listening environment.

With Layton’s use of raw sounds and processing techniques now forging an identity for himself which is very much his own, the end result is the most focused and realised Apalusa release to date.

Nice work, Gareth. I liked the earlier Apalusa releases, and this sounds even better, judging by the mp3 clips. Echoes of the spirit of early SotL (before they got distracted by post-classical chamber music and Holy Minimalism ;-)), and sort of aligned with guys like Machinefabriek and mwvm, and others in a sort of loose New Wave of Guitardronescapers, such as those Martin Fuhs (SiF) has been assembling 3"-wise on his Waterscape label.

Apalusa is a great musician. I dont want to rape this thread,
but his 3"cd-r on Waterscape is now officially available.

I definitely agree on the early-period SOTL comment - this new Apalusa material definitely occupies the same headspace as the first two, darker SOTL albums.  I think elements of Tim Hecker and Birchville Cat Motel can also be heard on Obadiah too.
