It's been a sort of mini-tradition of a few years now to give a summary each January of what's coming next from Hypnos.
I posted a bit of an update at the end of the "2010 outlook" topic so most of this stuff is already known, but rather than follow-up there, I'll start a new one.
Next up for Hypnos in 2011, not necessarily in this order.
Nebulae - The Path of White Clouds
A Produce & Loren Nerell - Intangible
Steve Brand - Avatara
Seren Ffordd & Oophoi - The Martian Chronicles
I'll talk a bit more about these soon in follow-up posts. Also, a few other things that aren't definite yet, but I can at least drop hints.
-
The release of Path of White Clouds should be our next CD release, in no more than a month. The artwork has been approved, so this is the final cover.

-
It's still not definite which CD comes after Nebulae, but it will almost certainly be either the A Produce & Loren Nerell collaboration Intangible, or Steve Brand's Avatara.
I have already previewed cover art for both of these (with a disclaimer that neither was final -- and the art for Intangible was an early concept and likely to change) so here I'll show the older version and more current version of each. Note that neither of these is definitely final, but these are much less likely to change very much than the old versions.

I do have artwork for the Seren Ffordd and Oophoi release (digital artwork by Seren Ffordd in fact) but haven't yet incorporated it into the digipak template, so that will have to wait a little.
-
It's good to see these releases upcoming. Your cover art is beautiful as usual. The Avatara cover is great. If I might venture a suggestion, the sun disk logo seems too large, and is competing in a distracting way with the eyeball in the center of the image. The older version seems more arresting in general as well. Just a thought...
I think the older version of Intangible is also more expressive of the title...
Can't resist the critique Mike, sorry, it's getting to be ingrained...
-
The sun disk logo will probably change, in location and/or size -- I just slapped it into InDesign without resizing the default size, just giving Steve an idea how his logo graphic would work with a black background.
Thanks very much for the comments.
-
I'm ready! Sounds really interesting, Mike. Hypnos always puts out quality works, IMO. 8)

Thank you, Mike, for all updates and cover art versions. I am ready too!!! Personally, I prefer more old version of "Intangible", as 9dragons said, it fits better the title. About "Avatara" I am not decided which one to prefer... Nebulae's cover art is perfect. Anyway, I hope the new releases will be as much beautiful as Herion's "Out and About".

Hi Mike,
I do prefer A Produce & Loren Nerell - Intangible (old version)
Feels more airy to me ;-)
-
Hi Mike,
I like the older version of Intangible.
I can't wait to hear this collaboration between Nerell an A Produce. I've been
following them both for over a year now and I'm sure they've got something
great going on. I saw Nerell live at the SoundQuestFest last October and the
guy puts on an excellent show. Again, can't wait to hear what comes out of this.
Cheers,
hhh

The upcoming Oöphoi CD is a blind buy for me!
-
Brilliant, new Oöphoi. ;D
-
Speaking of Oöphoi here's a preview of the final cover, just finished. This will be released in August.

Thank you for your updates, Mike!!! I really look forward to this newest beauty, my order will follow as soon "The Martian Chronicles" will be out.

Been looking forward to this release for ages, and a chance to purchase some others at the same time to save on postage. Roll on August.
Mike, ever thought of taking pre-orders?
-
I'm glad to hear people are looking forward to this.
We probably won't do pre-orders, at least not any time soon. I used to do that, in the old days of Hypnos, and ran into trouble with a CD that I thought would be released by a certain date, but ended up quite delayed.
Also, we end paying more for postage than what we charge customers, so arranging things so that we have to send a customer their already-released items now, and send another package with the pre-order items later, would just increase that postage loss.
We'll make up for this by offering a similar "first week deal" like what we did with Intangible. That worked really well, and as a result the month of Intangible's release was our best month in at least 6-7 years.
-
The most anticipated release for me in many years. :)
-
curious if 'The Martian Chronicles' comes as a double or single CD, knowing that both artists as said before, recorded much worthwhile material for this release..
waiting to hit the order-button shortly!
i think as Drone On mentioned before, it's about time for a Mathias Grassow hypnos release.. ;)
-
Pretty sure this is a single release. Hypnos has pressed very few doubles to date: only ones that come to mind immediately are The Other World comp., Soundtrack for the Aquarium, Humidity (3-disc)...
But of course I wouldn't be opposed to 2 or 3 discs of Seren and Oophoi's project.
-
There are two discs worth of Seren Ffordd and Oophoi collaborative material, but rather than a double album, this is more like two separate albums. The Martial Chronicles will be a single CD, and the second disc of material will be treated as a second, distinct album -- not certain whether it will be on Hypnos or not, but it's possible.
-
I should add, I had intended to have TMC into the manufacturing stage by this point but fell behind a bit with Lena out of town. I'm getting back to work on it now and it should be ready to start pressing soon.
-
Mike,
Are we still looking at an August release or will it be a little later in September?
-
If I can get it ready right away, it's still possible it will come out by the end of August, but I'd say the early part of September is a safer bet.
-
Well as they say, the best things are worth waiting for, and in my humble opinion this will be one of the best if not the best release of 2011.
-
Hey Guys,
thanks for the support - just hope it stands up to your excitement.... 8)
-
while waiting for the Martia(l) Chronicles, his IL SILENZIO DI DIO just came around the corner !
--> http://databloem.com/
from the excerpts i would say Oophoi delivers here a quite different sound from what we usually know from him..
-
Speaking of the Martian Chronicles CD, what has happened with this release? An earlier post proclaimed "this will be released in August", then was announced it would be a September release (this is now the last week in September and still hasn't been added to the store). Next Mon. is October 3. It seems like almost all EM labels out there put out a release date and firmly stick with it, but with Hypnos its like a big three month extended mystery to guess when it's coming out. ;D
My suggestion: overshoot the expected production completion date at the factory and pick a date. This way no one's left wondering.
-
It's been at the factory for several weeks. I discovered a tiny glitch in the master after I had already submitted it, in time to halt production and fix the glitch. It really should be finished soon, likely this week.
-
There has been some unintended hold ups, always a risk in this business and when making public deadlines - but as Mike says, soon, soon and I'm just glad he's as on the ball and sorted things out as they arose.
-
I also take issue with the notion that all labels other than Hypnos reliably stick to expected release dates, but that's another matter.
-
My issue really wasn't about not sticking to a release date (yes, not all labels meet their own release date), but the fact Hypnos never gives a SPECIFIC date on its website, just a rough approximation. I'm just saying it would be helpful to fans/customers so they don't have to keep checking the website every day to see if something's out yet. Especially for people wanting to use Hypnos' "first week" deal and get it cheaper.
-
We definitely don't want to confuse or mislead anybody about when the CDs are coming out. Any delays or changes in release plans are simply down to the fact that Hypnos is a small operation.
We do everything we can to let people know when a CD is available for sale... I update the CD's page on the main Hypnos site, announce it on this Forum and the Hypnos News page. We post to Twitter and Facebook (usually in more than one place on Facebook) and then I mass-email everybody about the new release.
With these first-week discount offers, like what we did with Intangible, it's in our interest to make sure everybody who might want to take advantage of that deal is aware of it.
As for The Martian Chronicles, I've just received shipping confirmation from the manufacturer so we should have these up on the store for sale in the next few days!
-
I've been out of the loop for over a year due to health issues and it looks like Hypnos has been very prolific in that time with some excellent releases. I've wasted no time this week in ordering all of the Hypnos releases from the Herion album onwards and if the sound samples and excellent feedback on here is anything to go by, I'm in for a real treat when the CD's arrive. Good to see Hypnos still going from strength to strength. :)
-
Thanks very much. Not only are we very proud of our 2011 releases, we think 2012 looks better yet. Of course, we may not be done with 2011 yet.
Here are some projects we're working to bring you soon:
Numina - The Deception of Reality
Bruno Sanfilippo - Urbs
Caul - Let the Stars Assume the Whole of Night (I'm not sure if that's the final title)
Since we haven't worked with Bruno Sanfilippo or Caul before, it's possible some kind of disagreement over artwork or something might make these less than definite at this stage -- but I'm completely sold on the music in both cases so we intend to release these soon.
We've worked with Numina enough to be confident that once we get to this stage, where the music is approved and the titles are OK and we have a general understanding about terms, release date and the rest, it will definitely happen.
We'd also like to release the second Seren Ffordd and Oophoi collaborative album The Canals of Mars at some point (and based on customer reaction to The Martian Chronicles, you'd like to see that too).
There's also another Paul Vnuk Jr. & Oophoi collaboration that's mostly finished, but needs some additional touches Paul intends to add as soon as he finds an opening in his schedule.
There are a few other possibilities out there, but nothing at the stage yet where it's likely enough to happen that it's worth mentioning here. Probably most/all of the above will form the foundation for the "Hypnos 2012 outlook" topic when that happens, but as I said I'd like to get at least one more released this year.
-
Caul on Hypnos! That rocks. Great artist.
-
Really nice line-up of upcoming projects and releases on Hypnos, Mike, congratulations!!! For exmaple, I am very happy to see Bruno Sanfilippo landing on Hypnos with "Urbs", I am really looking forward to all these releases!!! All the best and good luck with all of them... :)
Richard
-
Just make sure they get released by December 2012, lest a superwave or asteroid ruin the party. ;)
-
I'm looking forward to the new releases on Hypnos. Hypnos always has put out very good releases, but it seems that recently we have had a run of excellent releases. Keep it up. I'm saving my pennies.
-
Thanks again for the comments and feedback, everyone. We're really trying to release a stronger and more interesting selection of music than ever before.
Here's a preview of a couple of possible future CD covers. Neither one of these has been approved but in both cases, they're likely to be pretty close to final, especially since the artwork in question was provided by the recording artists themselves. Because I just did the layout, and the Hypnos template itself isn't really going to change any time soon, the only thing that might not be final would be cropping, color balance or that sort of thing.
