Title: Mathias Grassow Interstellar Gravity
Post by: drone on on February 18, 2016, 01:59:16 AM
This CD was just released by Russian label GSP Production, which released the 4CD box AeroArea.   I haven't heard it but I'll post a short review when the disc arrives.

I ended up buying a digital copy on Bandcamp. I think the album is nice: deep drones that fit well with an interstellar theme. It doesn't really stand out in any special way though.

How were you able to purchase it on bc? GSP seems to only have one track available for purchase/download unless you also buy the limited ed. digipack.

I didn't even know it was on Bandcamp.  Which one?  The label, or Grassow's?

There is an option to buy the album digitally on that page (i.e., the label's page). GSP doesn't seem to "do" bandcamp right, however. If you buy it, you can download the featured track immediately, but not the rest of the album. The wav files were sent separately via email by the label.

by "separately," I mean they sent a link to a different page where the files could be downloaded; they didn't send a bunch of wav files via email. Thank goodness!

Thanks Chris. This is very weird. Here's hoping I get that follow-up e-mail from them. I won't be too pleased if I just paid an album's fair price for a single track.

Ok, so this did work, but the follow-up e-mail went to my junk folder, so check there if you purchase the digital album and don't see the e-mail.

I found the bandcamp previews.  Sounds damn good to me.  Don't you guys wish you'd just ordered the CD instead?  Case in point why I don't like downloading unless there is no physical release.   :)

For someone not familiar with Grassow, what would you say are his key works or best albums?

well, I got a weak spot for most of his Gterma releases
if interested, read the reviews of them on my site...

I like Sphere, Space, Eclipse, Dissolution.
Dissolution is very dense, needs a good sound system to pull out the details.
With Amir Baghiri - True North is excellent.

My favorite Grassow album is Silent Lucidity.  It's available to download on his Bandcamp I think.  There's so much Grassow it's hard to make a list.  I never really compiled a best of list.  Not yet.
