Title: R.I.P. Jeff Kowal aka Terra Ambient
Post by: mgriffin on April 27, 2016, 01:58:40 PM

I've just seen the terrible news that Jeff Kowal, who was a long-time visitor to this forum, and best known for his recordings as Terra Ambient, has passed away.

As for today, the spottedpeccary.com landing page is a memorial to Jeff, though assume this link will point to something else if you find this later: http://spottedpeccary.com/

Many of us may have seen Jeff posting on Facebook about his difficult illness. I'm not sure what I can say. In addition to being a sensitive and gifted recording artist, Jeff was always intelligent and thoughtful in my interactions with him, and seemed to be well-liked and respected by everyone. He will be missed.

A great musician and influence on ambient music.
We will definitely miss him.  He's now playing awesome ambient music with Jim Brenholts....
Rest in peace dear friend...

And such a young age. How sad.   :(

This is quite sad! I feel blessed to have gotten to know Jeff better over the last 3-4 years. Lots of hour spent talking about gear, music and recording. Our conversations got fewer over the past 2 months and we spent more time texting and facebook chatting. I know he was really struggling. This is just such a loss, of a friend and fellow musician and gear freak. My prayers go out to his family!

That's a real shock to hear. I remember his release 'The Gate' being discussed here years ago and all the positive reactions he got from it.

RIP Jeff.

2016 has been a most exacting year so far for people passing on. I believe that creating music/art/literature/comedy etc. or anything that gives pleasure to other people is a pretty good way to spend one's time here.

Jeff had been open on Facebook about his struggle with cancer, but this is still a terrible shock for everyone.

Over the many years I've been involved with this community, I've come across a few people who were a true class act, always genuine and kind in their interactions with everyone. Jeff was one of the good ones.

Very sad.  Even with the knowledge of what was happening to Jeff, it's still difficult for me to process or to accept.  A very decent man and a talented musician.

Jeff was such a nice guy, I enjoyed our conversations the few we had about music and such. I am glad to have known him. It seems like it just took him so quickly, hard to believe. He will be missed.
