Everything and Nothing / Re: when music is painful

And what about leaving this one on the floor... ;D

By the way, Einleitungszeit is noise industrial project from Slovakia, this is special "handmade" edition from 1999. Trust me, I know what I am talking about and also I still remember blisters on my hands when helping these guys to cut the metal plates for these boxes...

Difficult to sellect only 10 albums... :(, but let's try:

Robert Rich  "Trances/Drones"  2CD  (my first ever ambient album that opened the gates...)
Michael Stearns  "The Lost World"  CD  (firstly catched by its stunning artwork, I really like the concept behind this album...)
Suspended Memories  "Earth Island"  CD  (Ambient Supergroup, with pearls like "First Blessing" or "Curandera"...)
Steve Roach "Origins"  CD  (with "Connected Underground" as one of my all time fave magics of Steve, Jorge & Linda...)
Vidna Obmana  "The River Of Appearance"  CD  (one of the most beautiful and tranquil albums of all time...)
Robert Rich/Alio Die  "Fissures"  CD  (two masters at their best, hauntingly nostalgic journey...)
Steve Roach/Jorge Reyes  "Vine ~ Bark & Spore"  CD  (with "Gone From Here" Jorge remains in my heart...)
David Parsons  "Ngaio Gamelan"  CD  (album loaded with Middle/Far East exotic...)
TUU  "Invocation: Archive"  CD  (filigree flute work and crystalline sound...)
Temps Perdu?  "Terra Incognita"  CD  (nice tribal/desert ambience from non-desert country, I was immediately hooked by "Desert Horizon"...)

Happy exploring, SpaceNovaRN71!!! ... :)

No, seriously jimzzzak, if you get your files directly from the artist, I agree with your download only choice, no problem at all. Like I already mentioned I respect the choice of all those who do it this way or download from official sites. But when it goes through unofficial sites, of course I can't agree with that. However, my preference will be always a physical CD.

And I have also this one on the Box... ;)

Few more...

Things you cannot do with music files:

3, Running excited to the post office to pick up your order
4, To have personalized signature of your fave artist on the artwork
5, Smell of the brand new digipak... :)

The new Box Set of Steve Roach (plus Brian Parnham) is a good example, I think few guys on this forum will agree with me... ;)

Hi, I am a bit surprised this topic remains without any reactions. Due to some postal troubles, it took me longer time before I was able to fully explore soundworlds of this Australian, but now I can only strongly recommend the music of Amongst Myselves to everyone on this forum. I think Steve Roberts is one of the most underrated and underrecognized artists in this genre, as far I remember we have been saying just the same some months ago about his countryman Andrew Lahiff. Australia seems to be really far away from us... :(  Anyway, check out Steve's music, it's worth of your investigation!!! 2 of his 5 albums come even with additional DVD featuring some stunning visuals. Please note, I am not doing this as a kind of promotion for Steve, even if we are in contact, I am just trying to spread the word about some talented, but still quite unknown musician and I think Amongst Myselves is one of them. I hope you will enjoy this music as much I do... :)

Yes, I agree with Julio, it's always very exciting to receive some nicely looking (and sounding too... :)) digipak by AirMail. To me, it's a piece of art, many times featuring personalized signature of the artist, I have to feel it in my hands, open it, load it into my CD player and taking the journey. I simply need this kind of ritual. This can't be beaten by any downloads, no matter how they sound like and how nice they look on my screen. Just hitting some buttons on my keyboard or mouse to select music from thousands of titles, no, thanks, this is nothing for me. Maybe I am too old (but not that old... :)) to accept all these new technologies, but this is how I feel about the music. But of course I will always respect the choice of all those who are taking the download route.

I hope you guys are enjoying it, can't wait for it too. I have to be more patient since I live in Europe, but I keep an eye on my mailbox...

The end of the year could not have bring more beautiful album than Herion's "Out and About". Paul has already expressed his feelings on this CD, so I hope I won't bother you too much with my feelings even if I am not a reviewer nor musician, just a big fan and collector... :)

Herion "Out And About" CD

For me, this is like "dreams came true" project, because it features Enrico Coniglio and Emanuele Errante who are resoponsible for some remarkable ambient solo albums released during the last few years, with some guest appearances of Elisa Marzorati, highly respected pianist. Now these three extremely talented musicians are teamed up in Herion project and landing on Hypnos. You can't go wrong with that, but I think this collaboration was as much exciting and challenging also for Hypnos as it marks new direction for this label thanks to Herion's ambient strongly influenced by classical music with the use of many acoustic instruments. Even if quite new territory to Hypnos, it fits more than perfectly to them. Thanks to virtuosity of all three members plus highly notable performance on viola by Piergabriele Mancuso, "Out And About" is absolutely beautiful, evocative, intimate and warm collection of compositions masterfully bridging filigree acoustics with gentle amount of electronics and field recordings. Perfectly crafted in every detail and even if quite minimalistic at times, always very expressive and effective in keeping the attention of each listener during the each of 46 minutes. The opening "Oxg" immediately elevates the album into untouchable heights and will never step down during the next 9 compositions. Absolutely splending mix of piano, viola, harmonica, melodica, rainstick with some synthesized sounds. Angelic beauty is not measurable, but it's certainly called "Oxg". Just the same could be said on melancholic "Lindos". Dreamy "Cab", "One Minute After The Sunset" and "The Earth" recall all your hidden memories while "Moske Orgulje" and "The Hanging Glacier" get more darker and tense. Cheerful "Two Minutes To Sunrise" and moody "Risvegli" and "Solo" close the album with all their tranquillity. I already used a lot of superlatives, but I still don't get enough when listening to this sonic pleasure, Herion can be easily described after Suspended Memories as another "Ambient Supergroup" and Emanuele Errante, Enrico Coniglio and Elisa Marzorati are the rising stars of ambient genre and bringing some new fresh wind to it. A pure masterwork!!!

Hypnos News and Announcements / Re: Hypnos 2011 outlook

Thank you, Mike, for all updates and cover art versions. I am ready too!!! Personally, I prefer more old version of "Intangible", as 9dragons said, it fits better the title. About "Avatara" I am not decided which one to prefer... Nebulae's cover art is perfect. Anyway, I hope the new releases will be as much beautiful as Herion's "Out and About".

As one of the Hypnos customers and big collectors I am in the 200-300 range mentioned by Mike, so I really hope the CDs will be around for ages to come even if the labels or artists can make only a smaller profit. Therefore the otions 1 and 3 are much more prefered by myself, but it's also depended on the prices with option 3. If the prices will go to some extremes, then this product might be available only to some rich collectors. Most likely in this case I will be forced to make decision what to buy and what to leave. Hopefully this won't happen and I will be able to afford this product or most of them as a serious fan and collector. Regarding the option 2, I agree with Mike/Altus, but I hope I won't be forced to deal with this option in the future. In any case, I am very thankful to Hypnos and to all other labels and artists who keep on releasing music on CD format and trying to find the best possible way in this situation. Thank you so much for all your passion and belief, and please keep on going!!!
