John Lyell - Planetary Artifactcs . New artist for me. Listening to this on spotify right now.

Atmospheric space music with many elements. This is very, very good indeed,

Will be checking out more from Mr Lyell. http://www.johnlyell.com/

Also - No Mask Effect - Drift To You Have to say the earlier releases just didn't do it for me. This however is very good, quite original, fairly dark ambient . I like it. https://whereambientlives.bandcamp.com/releases

Just noticed this is on Spotify, will check it out today. Briefly heard some on BC a couple of weeks ago and thought it was very good. Looking forward to a proper in depth listen and suspect it will be added to thei urgent list.

Namlook / Moufang - Raumland Sphare. Possibly my least favourite of The Raumland trilogy, more beat orientated, but still very good indeed.

DTS surround mode will be activated for a listen later .

The new Eno ambient album is out. Just listened to the very short snippet that is on Spotify, sounds very promising. I can feel a double vinyl purchase in the planning here.

Current play ;

Specta Ciera + The Circular Ruins - Middle Distance

Steve Roach - The Passing

This has been on constantly, (along with the new Mick Chillage) since I got it a couple of weeks back. Steve really does seem to be on a roll with his recent ambient works. This one in particular is something special.

To my taste, too much badmouthing in the air, Tardigrade...

Almost sounds like a reincarnation of Orion 32/drone on.

More along the lines of this character IMHO:

Seems to be outspoken negativity frequently, can't be arsed reading it personally.

Really enjoyed Fortitude series 1, there is something about the North that draws me in.

Looking forward to season 2 , watched the first episode and the rest is loading on the Sky box. It will keep me going until the imminent return of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones  8) 8) 8).

Also been watching the BBC series Taboo . Dark, dark, dark !!!

Mick Chillage - Exulansis

Almost 4 hours of high class ambient mastery. Mostly over drone work , some with hint of melody, space ambient, and some dark atmospheres. Amazing piece of work and still taking it all in.

Jon Anderson - Olias of Sunhillow LP , wonderful .

Steve Joliffe - Journeys Out Of the Body
Mick Chillage - Exulansis , almost 4 hours of absolutely epic ambient mastery . Just checking this out for the second time on Bandcamp . Urgent , if not immediate , acquisition required.

Pete Namlook / Dave Moufang -

XVIII- Sexoid , there's a track on this called "Retro Future" , check it out and it will blow your mind  ;) especially in surround DTS.
XIX - Dawning Of A New Decade, a more ambient offering and again wonderful in DTS mode

and finally got hold of this.......................

Gert Emmens - Triza....................Love it. Some ambient parts but mainly Berlin school late 70s/early 80s Tangerine Dream vibe.

That is one good album, but listening to ambient is sad it is total destruction of audio. I feel bad of people growing up today, with bad audio quality everywhere.

I don't feel bad for people growing up today.  They can use YouTube to preview a full album in lower audio quality before they buy it.  When I was a kid, I didn't get to listen to music before I bought it.

The unfortunate thing is a large percentage of young people don't buy music and don't know what good audio quality is.  I'm betting the Thom Brennan album sounds pretty good at Spotify.  Sadly, someone has to listen to it 1000 times to pay the artist $10.  Most people won't stream Mist 1000 times in their lifetime.

Think it's more than just young people in this scenario. I know many adults, all ages, who do not have the first clue about sound quality, Hi Fi, bit rates , or even remotely decent music.

Conversely I know a lot of young people who are right into music, buying vinyl and looking at better equipment etc.

I can confirm the Brennan albums on Spotify are pretty damm good quality. I stream on the highest quality choice which I think is 320kbs. I have most of the Brennan albums on purchased download but still listen on Spotify occasionally. Have to confess I like Spotify very much. I use it mainly for researching artists that I might like to follow further by purchasing their music. But also listen to artists that I would never consider purchasing their music so I guess they get some support from that. As a result of spotify I have bought several albums I may not have otherwise.

Is that actualy what the payment rate is then 1000 plays for $10? If so that is poor. I do recall a Projekt email where Sam said it was 247 plays for one dollar also. Mmmhh not great.

Hey cvac, sorry I missed your reply to that.

I am actually just listening to Topographic in DTS surround right now. Amazing job by Steve Wilson remixing this in surround. Quite an experience listening to it. Hearing several things I have never heard before buried in the mix. Wonderful album that jostles for top position with Close to the Edge for me.

Also has to be said the 2016 stereo remixes are also excellent, quite apparently different in bits and worth checking out. This album has lived with me for about 40 years , I know it well, but still hear new stuff every listen.

It is probably my greatest album of all time, all genres. A few contenders for that though.

Acquired the two new Steve Roach ambients. ....

Painting In The Dark is fantastic, one of the great Roach releases of recent times. Absolutely love it. Have the download will hope to get the CD eventually.

Fade To Gray , also good but as it's darker and possibly listening is influenced more by ones mood, it will not be played as often. Still good though.

Checked out the other release Spiral Revelation. I seem to be drifting away from the more Berlin School type ambient and music these days, so won't be getting that one.

Tetsu Inoue - Inland , having had the iTunes download for years finally got the silver disc for Christmas.

Stunningly beautiful ambient mastery of the highest order . Wherever you are Tetsu I hope all is well.

I so agree. Tetsu Inoue is (was?) truly one of the finest artists in the entire world of ambient music. Inland is a masterpiece. Such a unique style, so intimate, subtle, warm and fuzzy in a very pleasant way.

Well said DeepR.

Also have to add I have listened  to the Alio Die and many Ishq albums on Spotify. Hard to keep up with Ishq especially, high quality, prolific,  ambient beauty. Will listen to more and I am sure both artists will feature in my best of.

I will be checking out that Space Simulator album as I haven't heard same and sounds right up my street.

Good shout Chris.

Here's mine - just copied and pasted from elsewhere, so some non ambient, hope you don't mind.

Anderson/Stolt - Invention of Knowledge . Album of 2016 for me, best YES album for many years.

Forrest Fang -Sleepwalkers Ocean
Jacob Newman - Biospherica
Mick Chillage - (M)odes
The Angling Loser - Area of Apprehension
Autumn of Communion - Broken Apart By Sunlight
Tangerine Dream - Szczecin Poland
Steve Roach - Shadow of Time , This Place To Be
Robert Rich - What We Left Behind (Vestiges will also be when I acquire same)
Johannes Schmoeling - a thousand times 2
Ulrich Schnauss - No Further Ahead Than Today
Radiohead - Moon Shaped Pool
Pineapple Thief - Your Wilderness
Runrig - The Story

Reissues - Tales from Topographic Oceans (blu ray) , Dark Side of The Moogs

Still to get Oxygene3 and the new Riverside triple vinyl prog ambient instrumental thing. Both will be up there.

So quite a lot really, been a good year for me anyway.

Johannes Schmoelling - A Thousand Times part 2 and
Ulrich Schnauss - No Further Ahead Than Today

Two albums from TD men. Both seem to suit this Christmas Eve time and mood. Excellent albums.

Merry Christmas to all on here. Have a great time with family and friends over the festive period. All the best.

Aglaia - Latitude

Listened to this on Spotify Chris , lush and interesting ambient as you say. Thereafter embarked on an Aglaia fest - Leaves and Tunderstorms, Angelus, Ephemeral Blue (wonderful !!), Florealia Nocturnal and current play is Intangible Opacity . Great stuff.

Also discovered what I assume is another Aglaia - very laid back almost improvised jazz , very good also.
