Last night:

Eluvium- Talk Amongst The Trees; I still love this one, but then I listened to--
Eluvium- Copia; Found this one to be just plain annoying! This was one of those discs that sound nice when you first listen, but gradually becomes becomes more and more cloying, like way too much sugar in your coffee.

Hey - I haven't seen the name "Ten and Tracer" in a long time.   Cool to see still recording.

Thanks for that !

We're both pleased with how it turned out (and it almost didn't !)

I've posted some words regarding the making of this album on the 'Igneous News' post in the 'Non-Hypnos Artists and Labels' section

cheers
Pete

Fabulous.

Today:

Le Chat Blanc - Ste. Claire Hotel - Make Mine Music
(First album "Théories Sur La Danse" was great...but this one takes on a life of it's own.  Sure the SOTL influences are present....string arrangements and effects...but in the end some of these pieces will rival the better moments of SOTL....a critically underated album of 2008)

Brian Eno - Discreet Music - Editions EG
(Just Because.....)

Neroli -Another Eno masterpiece. Such calm....

Dave Michuda

the tumbled sea - melody summer - very pretty neo-classical stuff. some is good, some is too sweet.
the orb - orbus terrarum - wow! I can't believe I'd never heard this album until recently.  I heard Slug Dub on LastFM & had to get the album.  Loving the spacey beats.
klotzsch & krey - through all these years of trying to belong - very interesting recording from the 12rec netlabel.  Here's a portion of their description..."Home alone, Emil arranged subtle piano miniatures. Listening to these recordings via headphones, bassetthornist Ruediger Krey improvised over Emils' introspect piano dashes sitting somewhere out in the field with wind and birds and rustling leaves around him." What's a bassetthorn?  sounds like an oboe or clarinet.  Free download here...12rec
Arc Of Doves - Impressions - maybe a bit too pretty.

Rocking the Yamaoka albums Build on Water and Hokkaido Loops. These guys make some of the most soulful and interesting looping techno...

Also great recently is Roach's Landmass, with wonderful bizarre passages.

Celer - Discourses of the Withered. Such a deep and impactful album, along with its wonderful companion. Deep hours of listening pleasure.

Thomas Koner - Nuuk - Mille Plateaux
(A piece that has really grown on me recently...never gave it the attention it deserved five years ago...always had a feeling that Zyklop and Unerforschtes Gebeit overshadowed this work...it's good but not exceptional as many of Koner's works usually are)

Steve Roach/Erik Wollo - Stream Of Thought - Projekt
(Some of the parts like 5, 11, 12, etc make no sense....it's like scraps meant to be interludes that disrupt the flow and feel forced...was getting into the work and then every twenty minutes or so the scraps float in....)

Annea Lockwood - A Sound Map Of The Hudson River - Lovely Limited
(Field recording's.....I think I like Sound Map Of The Danube River much more this one lacks the diversity of sounds....On the Danube River you could identify sounds with particular regions and locales....it felt more like a story...this one sounds like the same recording of the river on 7 out 15 pieces....)

Dania Shapes - Holograd - Paper Cities
(Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never creating much more subdued ambient pieces....well perhaps subdued is the wrong word but compared to the sounds of his different alaises it makes sense...will have to come back to this one...I found it frustrating on initial listen)

Arc Of Doves - Impressions - maybe a bit too pretty.

Definitely. Also fundamentally uninspired, insipid and derivative of all the Usual Suspects (basically a dab of Budd/Eno and a dollop of bvdub/Intrusion/Echospace). Is it me or are we being slowly inundated by overpolite versions of AmbientDubTechno (<---rhetorical question)

SiF

I honestly like and enjoy this Impressions Disc. Wonderul mix of delicate piano lines and
noisy ambient tunes. I especially love "After Dark" cause it totally sounds like Fennesz & Sakamotos
Cendre. Of course, it doesn't invent anything new but it is a very good album in my opinion.

Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto - Logic Moon
still the best there is and there ever will be 8)

7% Solution - "All About Satellites and Spaceships" and "Gabriel's Waltz".  Two gems of psych-pop, shoe-gazy in spots, absolutely beautiful.

O Yuki Conjugate, "Equator" and "Peyote".  Two old favorites.

I wish I was a Glowworm; a Glowworm's never glum. 'Cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?
