It's seem's that Alan has a point....the dub techno sound has become oversaturated as of late...the only good thing about "Impressions" is that it was'nt the same ol same ol....maybe a bit to happy...but i'm a little divided on this one as well....

Dania Shapes - Holograd - Paper Cities
(On second though this release just breaks the mold....recently I got his cassette tape on NNA Tapes (mind-blowing stuff)...this one's different...it's not over the top sequencer synth Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream type stuff)....thus Oneohtrix Point Never...nor is it Astronaut...blazed out electronics....actually it's more like Fennesz remixing a long lost Klaus Schulze album....I know it sounds strange but that the only way I can describe this disc....5/5 for me! I've been listening to it the whole day...)

Marahiko Hara - Icon E.P. - Cotton Goods
(Piano tones grayed out with a little hiss here and some wind drones underlying the whole process....this label has really been hitting the spot as of late. Only one problem they create only 100 copies of each...but when you see the packaging then it all makes sense....I have commented in the past on how stupid it is to release such great music limited to only 100 copies...but the packaging is absolutley gorgeous....they demolish books hemm them tear some pages out and tuck in the CD's within the folded pages....you have to see it to believe it...go here:

Celer - Engaged Touches - Home Normal
(Has to be amongst the three best albums for me within the Celer catalog....very similiar to the Infraction release last year "The Everything And The Nothing" but has the right amoung of different to make it absolutley essential...)

Bus Van Huizen - Ontgalman - Test Tube
(Very cool and free....top class drone ambient project from Van Huizen...if you have his other albums...you were probably exposed to much murkier and noisier material...this one has more of an ambient feel...I must say I think this is his best release to date)

I've been listening to a lot of shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) music recently and must say, it is most excellent for inspiring creative endeavors. Been listening to a lot of Earth lately, and like them more with each listen. Powerful powerful works of restrained building heaviness, but a heaviness that is somehow light and breathing.

For Japanese shakuhachi and koto music, the best album of all could easily be Lullaby for the Moon, which is on the Hemisphere label. Nothing else this otherworldly, even amongst my choice collection of Japanese classical.

And a FREE music download from last year I stumbled across yesterday:

Phantom Channel Presents- Compilation 1; Wow, what a find this was! A flawless assembly of rather ominous and spooky tracks from artists that I've never even heard of. A great variety of different styles of music, mostly beatless; -techno, guitar drones, synth drones, glitch, dark ambient, a little noise (but not obnoxiously noisy), all wrapped up in a seamless little package. I never would have thought that such an eclectic collection of tracks could fit together so well, but it's probably the most consistently great compilation disc I've ever heard. And again, I must emphasize that it's a free download.

Compilation 2 is a much spottier affair, but there are gems on that one as well.

Turns out that the man behind this label is none other than Antony Harrison, who releases music under the Konntinent moniker. He's got a free download there himself, which I'll be checking out tonight. Also, the El Heath download sounds intriguing.

This is a guy from the Phantom Channel Comp 1 download. He plays an obscure instrument called an "ondes martenot", a precurser to the Theremin. The music is quite unusual, droney in a kind of psychedelic & trippy way. Neat stuff! You can get free copies of several of his albums from www.recordsonribs.com , with an option to donate.

Also: Konntinent- If I could Buy A Map Of Hope Volume 2; strange and uneasy microsounds, very fascinating.

Earlier Today:
Anduin + Jasper TX - The Bending Of Light - SMTG
(The theme appears to be phrases uses by Carl Sagan...although I would not call this music cosmic in the sense of Jonn Serrie or Michael Stearns....the album is peculiar for both of these artists...if 37 minutes qualifies for an album....I had a hard time identifying which artist did what on the album...for my opinion is usually a good indication that both artist worked seamlessly together. Definetly more ambient than drone....but then again more experimental than ambient....hard to categorize the album but an enjoyable listen)

Then:
Vidna Obmana & Alio Die - Echo Passage - Musica Maxima Magnetica
(Decided to take the album for a stroll...pity both artists never followed up this attempt...I believe that both of these artists worked better than Obmana and Roach or Alio Die and Rich.....the music seems so effortlessly smooth....)

And Now:
Colin Potter - See - Infraction
(I can't think of one reason as to why it took me six years to pick this album up....obviously it went right over my head....hard to believe that some of these pieces were composed back in 1990...but then again it is Colin Potter and drones on in that slow unfolding style...but damm it sounds ahead of its time...)

All Vidna, all day: Memories Compiled 1 & 2. Interesting to see the variation in styles from his early work to the later stuff. Very nice.

Taylor Deupree/Stephan Mathieu-Transcriptions; I love this! Sounds more like Deupree than Mathieu to me... Deupree's earlier music always sounded TOO minimal to me, but I've been liking his recent stuff. More layers, more variations, and more complexities without losing that intimate "microsound" feel. It's very warm and charming, and I know how corny that sounds, but oh well... sounds better with headphones, but either way is great.
