Beautumn - Bordeaux
New release on Infraction. I like this a lot more than the previous Beautumn album. This has a minimal, isolationist feel, complete with cold, windswept sonic landscapes.

This is on my wishlist. I liked the previous Beautumn album, but I'd only expect this one to be better, so that makes sense. Never heard the first one. Infraction releases a lot of good stuff, even if I haven't been keeping up with all their releases.

chris23

I bet you'll love it. The title track, in particular, is excellent.

The four new CDs by Alio Dies label, 2 by Alio Die, two by Aglaia.  On heavy rotation.  Due to a duplicate purchase, I have extra copies of all four, New and unplayed.  $10 each.  If you want all four and in the US, I'll ship for free.

I've just picked this up.  It's my favorite of the Beautumn releases.  His first ("Blanket") is also pretty good, but hard to find.  He has also been a member of IDM band Sleepy Town Manufacture, which has free netlabel recordings on the archive.org website.

Dettinger - Oasis

Ambient leaning minimal techno before the style got too cliched. I've had this album for over 15 years and it still holds up very well.

Ishq - Winter Light

My second album by this artist (the huge catalog is a bit intimidating), very nice long track of dreamy drone work.

Aglaia - Reverberant Skies

Another artist I am only just getting into. Very pretty, subtle stuff here.

Tuu - Mesh

I liked "invocation", which I got on FLAC download, so I picked up this used CD for $4. Very good mellow "tribal" ambient stuff, needs more listens to sink in.

Steve Roach - Light Fantastic

Half of this leans more towards the ambient techno type stuff on the collaboration albums with Vir Unis, which makes sense because Vir is credited on this too. Great album.

Thom Brennan - Mist

Gorgeous stuff. Eventually I will get the whole catalog, but it will have to wait for now. "Vibrant Water" is on deck next.

Aube/Telepherique - R-S+C

Really nice vinyl release. I don't know much about Telepherique (I've got one CD I think) but he composes some metallic clanging soundscapes here and Aube "remixes" them. Works well, recommended if you like Aube stuff from this time period.

Oh neat. I didn't realize he was part of Sleepy Town Manufacture. Thanks for filling me in. I really like "No Traces."

Listening to Wordclock's Self Destruction Themes right now and very impressed. Not the run of the mill Cryo/Cylic stuff you'd expect either. Some nice cello throughout the album. I'd recommend this to anyone.

The digital version is 50% off right now, time to grab it if interested. I took a chance on this one and I'm very pleased so far.

Was hoping to get more discussion going here since the forum seems to be kinda dead with only a new post a couple times a week from what I can see.

Seren

discussion is good, very good.

chris23

I agree. Post away, cvac. I love reading about the music you're exploring and celebrating.

Hummingbird - Glade
The follow-up to the much celebrated 2010 release on Fluid Audio by a musician who opted for anonymity. This is heavily processed electro-acoustic ambient with a dizzying array of sound sources. Having said that, I don't really feel a connection to it, which is disappointing. I never heard the original Hummingbird release, Our Fearful Symmetry, due to its rarity, but I did buy the remixes on Bandcamp and was really impressed with that album.

Yep, posting is good. It's what this place is for.

Yes, more posts, cvac.  I've enjoyed reading about your recent listening.

Sorry to hear about the latest Fluid Audio, chris23.  I've found them to be a bit hit and miss, though their packaging is exceptional.  I ejjoyed their release of From The Mouth of the Sun's Into The Well, though the elaborate package includes no credits!

chris23

They didn't give any credits to an 18th century map maker or a pressed flower?  ;D

Or the glassine bags.  I feel cheated!  ;)

Yes, post away. You're right, the forum is currently pretty dead (compared to days of yore), so any posting keeps things more 'alive'.

Past week or so has been .....

Namlook/Schulze - DSOTMoog box 2 , vol 5-8. Diverse, interesting and excellent indeed.

The two new Alio Die and also Aglaia on Spotify . Especially like the Leaves and Thunderstorms album ....... apart from the track Last Straw which has a horrendous, grating, irritating, ambient dog whistle ( in fact dog screetching device ! ) Why on earth is that there? Fortunately it is a very short track and the rest of the album is wonderful.

Also checked out Wordclock mentioned by cvac. Like it very much, even the couple of later tracks with the heartbeat type bass drum. Will probably get this download, thanks for the tip.
