Hypnos At Discogs

Hi folks! I don't know if any of you use Discogs.com, but I have noticed that though many discs from Hypnos are represented, there aren't just too many ratings or reviews featured. Perhaps Hypnos artists and fans would like to add data to the database? Dare I say positive data, or even just honest data?

Some releases are better represented than others, but quite a few only belong to a couple of people and have 1 or 2 ratings, which I am guessing is not accurate.

Hmm, followed those links and was surprised to find (I hadn't checked in several months) the listings were pretty close to complete.  I've seen plenty of artists or labels where 3/4 of the discography is missing.

I won't ask people to stuff ballot boxes, but of course here, and anywhere else open public reviews are allowed (amazon.com for example), I'd always encourage people to leave comments regarding Hypnos CDs you enjoy (or don't enjoy -- honest constructive criticism is quite useful too).  This sort of thing is very helpful in getting other browsing potential listeners to convert from potential to actual.

Several years ago I was heavily into discogs - and entered in quite a few titles for Hypnos (and Dark Duck and other labels I like...) - but I haven't added any in quite some time. 

Used to hit discogs all the time - but it's blocked at work now... :-(   Always nice to get a bit of info on the album I'm listening to.

I hadn't realized that Hypnos is just a dirty, rotten, smelly New Age label until I read those comments!   
I must go hide my Hypnos CDs and try to de-stress with a few crystals - I mean a few stiff shots of cheap whiskey.

I love Discogs, in fact I'm addicted to it! Such a great alternative to eBay in terms of buying and selling music, plus a great way to discover new music.  It is frustrating that some of the listings have no ratings/reviews.  When I get a chance I'll rate some Hypnos discs (all 5 stars of course!)

Thanks to Discogs for keeping EM and ambient music alive here in the US. And of course forums like Hypnos. I almost lost hope for electronic/ambient music here in america. Was heavy into Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, etc., etc. in the 70's and 80's. It seemed like we lost alot of the EM/ambient during the 90's. While Europe was still strong. Thanks due to the internet and shops like Discogs and Hypnos we are able to experience the music.

I didn't understand the "new age" comment above until I went to Discogs and read the "review" of the Hypnos label by some turkey stating Hypnos "poses" or "tries to be" an ambient label but is really just "New Age."  I'd love to know what this idiot's definition of "ambient" is.

I remember around 5-7 years ago there was this huge push, especially on the ambient mailing list, to redefine more ambient music as new age.  I think the guys behind that were really just trying to piss everybody else off.

Hmm, that daveindetroit  guy seems familar. I don't know if anyone remembers that guy who went on all electronic music forums and started calling everything new age? He came here for a little while before he got booted off.

We've worked hard to keep it up-to-date. And they're local to Portland, Ore so they darned well better support local labels.

@Ma Ja Le - yeah, love to have the Discogs anal folks yell at the artists themselves. Our beef about not allow all lowercase album or track titles, when we purposefully choose not to capitalize or do it in a standard way, is an on-going battle. Since they're local to Portland we tried to meet w/someone in person - it was even worse!

Frightened to reply, but we just wanted to say we started the Discogs page- and stupidly got their first release wrong (we assumed the first Viridian Sun CD) - anyway, we worked on it a bit then Mike took over fixing a million of our mistakes (it's his label, so he's the expert) and we hoped once things were set straight we could help more - but we just haven't been able to do it.

Anyway, we think having the entire discography on both pages would be great but it wouldn't hurt if the artists that Hypnos have released considered it "self promotion" and just made sure their releases were there and correct.

Granted, we believe we're guilty of it ourselves but hopefully not.
