I think they waited too long to begin the march toward the finish line of the series, and now they're having to close up a lot of loose ends quickly.

We didn't get to watch the latest episode until last night (DVR is a wonderful thing), and thought it was pretty good.  Not only that, it's so much better to watch without commercials.

I'm most interested to find out what's going on with Richard next week.

They did start slow (as usual) this season - and yeah - I think we're headed for a quite a rocket ship ride for the rest of the season.   All the chess pieces seem to almost be in place.   I loved Ben's story arc last week - and Sawyer's was perfectly in line with what Sawyer would have been in season 1...   A lot of earlier season callbacks I'm noticing just tossed in now and then.

The flash sideways are getting better - although I heard somewhere there's an interview with Matthew Fox that the focus on flash-sideways kind of ends by a third of the way through (although aren't we half way? so maybe that was just another false clue).

As always with Lost - many of the puzzle pieces make more sense when I rewatch the episodes.   Assuming I win a lottery that someone else buys me a ticket for.. I'll be getting the blu-ray complete series release coming out in August.   Just the filming alone make this series blu-ray worthy... and the music.

At this point in the final season, I'd say they've spent so much time on "new alternative timeline" stuff that they're definitely not going to conclude the story in the way I thought they were, which was simply to resolve the "straight" timeline of those who left the island, came back, and set off the bomb that killed (?) Juliet.  Why would the writers spend 2/3 of each episode in this final season showing "this is what would have happened in this character's life if they had never ended up on the island," if that weren't going to end up being very important?

The extremely close focus on one character per episode has been satisfying in the sense that it's sort of a summing-up of that person, and the Richard Alpert episode was especially full of revelations about the island's history, and Jacob, and the black smoke guy.  So far I'd give this final season a B+ overall, and depending on how the writers and producers wrap this up, I could see this ending as either a thrilling finale, or a disappointment of expectations.

Last night's episode was a major... ummm.... hmmmm...  yeah - not really much of anything.   I'd originally thought it was a semi-decent 'bridge' episode - a 'calm before the storm' episode... but - it's not like there's really that many hours left to have the storm.  And do I really care how Jin got in the refrigerator?

I hope there's some resolution on the flashsideways.   Many have been very enjoyable -and have tied in very nicely with the island.  Sayid's especially - and Ben's was truly a great episode.    Jin and Sun?  I love those two characters... but it's like the wind is out of my sails on them right now.

I agree - it's either going to be the greatest last couple of episodes ever - or it's going to totally blow up from all the expectations.   I still feel they're going to pull it off personally.  ;-)

I've found them a consistently satisfying set of episodes this season.
Still eight left.
Don't think I'll be too disappointed if it doesn't wrap up perfectly ...
the journey has been great.

While I'm annoyed with Tuesday's episode...   c'mon ABC... did you REALLY need a countdown to the return of V during LOST?  Sheesh!

I'm not annoyed with this whole season...  I think LOST has been consistently awesome since mid season 3.   Beginnings of season 2 (especially season 2..) and beginning of season 3... eh - a bit of a falter -but otherwise - a thought provoking, makes me actually want to watch live tv and put up with commercials and bad sound and picture just to see what's going to happen next!

Yes.   (stop reading if you haven't seen it!)

I loved how all of a sudden the flash-sideways is unraveling.  Faraday mentioning he's been a musician all his life and then all of a sudden wrote down advanced quantum mechanics...   'not penny's boat'...

It appeared that Eloise "knew" if you ask me.  She seemed to know something about the very unique nature of Desmond and this timeline.

Faraday realizing he must have set off a nuclear bomb in the past... incredible.

"Love"...  the theme seems to be love conquers all ... including time/space/alternate timelines.

So - did Widmore explain to Desmond back on the island what he needed to do before Des went with Sayid?   I think possibly so.   I think Des will be triggering a magnetic event of some type - or going into the where the magnetic pocket is to do something that only he can do.

Richard's episode utterly rocked.
Jin/Sun's was kind of a waste of an hour.
Desmond's epidode got us back on track.

I'm happy!

It really is fascinating how they're bridging the "alternate" timeline and the "original" timeline, with one warping into the other.

It was also really great to see Charlie Pace and Daniel Faraday again -- two of the best characters from Lost.

Seems fairly clear at this point they're heading toward a re-unification of timelines, though it's anyone's guess where that will leave everyone. I'm enjoying it so far (though a couple of episodes have been below the standard of the rest).

Could it all go back to when Desmond turned the key in Season 2 setting off all these events?

My first thought was the "sideways" world was the way it should have been if they never went to the island.  But it seems to be coming apart and seems to be more of a "dream world" or alternate reality as experienced by Desmond.  So now where is it all going?

Right now my guess is that the separation between the two timelines will continue to fracture until they'll end up in the original timeline, possibly still wishing they could get off the island and full of frustration that they couldn't escape -- unaware of how badly things would have turned if they HAD escaped.

Oooh, I don't know if I like that....  :(

I'd rather have Desmond do something with the magnetic pocket, which causes them to never have crashed on the island in the first place, (and of course they all live happily ever after, and this weird alternate reality is only weird right now because it wasn't the one that was "meant to be.")

Yep, I'm a sucker for happy endings sometimes...  :D

Yeah, but...  if they didn't crash, their lives weren't all that happy.  Kate is a murderer & a fugitive, Jack's a wreck after his father died, Hurley is plagued by bad luck, Sawyer killed a man (and is a con-man), Sayid is a torturer whose true love is dead, Jin and Sun are on the run from mobsters (and she's carrying her lover's baby); other characters have cancer, heroin addictions, etc.  They seemed happier after the crash, not before...

I miss Echo - his character was cool.
I wish I was a Glowworm; a Glowworm's never glum. 'Cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Yeah, after I wrote that, I walked away & went, "Wait a minute......"  ;D

Hmmm, I guess my fantasy is that Desmond somehow throws them all into an alternate, alternate timeline, where they never crashed AND all the bad stuff never happened to any of them, (too much to ask? Probably!)

Mike usually ends up guessing right about stuff, so don't be surprised if the show ends up going the way he predicted!

.........or they all morph into characters from Coronation Street (UK soap) and realise how much they had been dreaming of having an interesting plot line, and that this reality is infinitely more scarey than anything the Lost scriptwriters came up with!! ;D ;D

The thing is, when there is a lot (or everything) on the line, what is required to make it right is a sacrifice.
There is no spoon. Which sucks because I have a pudding cup.

Oh, I know. Like I said- I was just being a girl.  ;)

I can't wait to see how they actually wrap it up, though, no matter which way it ends up going.

I haven't read a word.  My wife and I have never watched the show, until this past week.  We live out in the woods, you know, and we don't get cable or satellite TV, so we just watch DVDs.  Our son has the first season and lent it to us, we are HOOKED!  We are watching 3-4 episodes a night.

I'll probably catch up with this thread soon. ;D
So, I'm a "Sr Member", huh?  In June it's SENIOR DISCOUNT TIME!!!
