I know that there probably isn't a great deal of interest here regarding the world cup, but I thought I'd start a thread anyway.

Watched the Germany / Australia last night - wow ! the Germans looked impressive.
I look forward to seeing the really good teams and players showing off their talent, am always keen to see Brazil, Holland and the like.

I know football isn't to everyone's taste, but its a massive global cultural event nonetheless.
People go a bit mad over here when England are in it, but that doesn't usually last beyond the opening round :)

cheers
Pete

I've watched most of the matches and really enjoy a good game.
I'm in Canada, but I'm from England, so grew up with footie.
Shame about the keeper fumble in the England/USA match  :(

Ouch  - you're not joking there !

Mikeyboy

Well I've watched nearly all the games so far, but I'm English as well - is there a pattern here??  ;D

England looked fairly average, as expected, and Germany looked excellent, which I didn't expect.

And I'm loving the vuvuzelas!

APK

Yep, Germany looked very good (as usual). Excellent strikers, working very well together. But their defense was perhaps not tested much in that game.

Looking forward to seeing Italy today.

Yeah, ambient lovers take note!  It's like one long drone-fest for a couple hours with those things.  As one of the few "Americans" to post, and I use that in quotes because my wife who's from South America doesn't understand why we USA'ans claim ownership of 2 whole continents, I've been enjoying what little I've seen so far.  Paraguay is on vs. Italy, and the former just went up 1-0.

This is on the Spanish channel and not sure how live this game really is, but I often prefer the spanish announcers.  With them, when there's a goal, you know it whether you're in the room or not...

2002 was the first year I ever watched a World Cup and surprisingly I was enthralled, especially with Brazil's play- just amazing.  In '-06 the France vs. Italy game was one of the few games I caught, and for people who like drama infused with their sports, it's definitely there, just in a different form.  Like in the form of headbutts to get you kicked out when the game is on the line, for example.

Mikeyboy

Haha, yeah as organic a drone as one could wish for - natural reverb too :)

I think the World Cup is a fantastic global event, I can't think of anything else which gets people all over the world watching, even if your own team isn't involved. Love it.

Brazil are definitely great to watch but Spain are looking even better at the moment, can't wait to see them in action tomorrow. They've got some incredible players. England are looking very average in comparison! :(

And I agree, I loved Zidane's headbutt, one of the great, dramatic, sporting moments.

Watching right now, I see Brazil has a guy named Julio Cesar.   Julius Caesar!

Is it me or are there less funky hairstyles this year?  Seems like it has gone out of fashion a bit.

APK

I'm watching the Brazil game too.
Half time. Korea Doing well.

Yep, for sure seems to be less crazy hair styles this time. ;D

wow.  if you're watching I don't have to tell you why...

The announcers are blaming it on the goalkeeper, but Brazil just made an unbelievable cross-shot goal.  That was awesome.

France vs Mexico could be a good one today.

It certainly was! Things are hotting up nicely - Spain losing, Argentina coming into form, France as good as out.

No idea what to expect of England tonight, they _should_ win easily but Algeria will be hard to breakdown and England are always susceptible on the break. I'm nervous!!

APK

That England vs Algeria match sure was pitiful.

Cameroon vs Denmark was enjoyable today.

I'm getting more into this World Cup now, there's been some dreadful shooting, but either a lack of initial nerves or circumstance are making for more open games.

The South American teams in general are looking good, making most of the European teams look jaded (apart from Holland).
God knows why England have been so bad - still we are still world leaders in Darts (and gurning)  ;)

Mikeyboy

Yeah it's getting interesting now! England, France and Italy have been shown up, Brazil look strong but as usual, Spain now have great pressure on them to perform. Loving it :)

Pub sports - the British rule, indeed!
