Soundcloud and its alternatives

What is going on with soundcloud.......I can't  play anything, everywhere I go in it and whatever I try to do I get nowhere except to get me to sign up for "Go Pro".  This is what is really going on I feel. Because I have an account they are making it hard to navigate unless I upgrade.  I could be wrong. I dont use it that much to warrant a $55 yearly subscription.

Anyone else experience this and are there any alternatives in a similar format.

By the way I have know problem with money being made but something has change at soundcloud. Were they bought out recently?

I find Soundcloud to be useful merely as a place to upload some material and use their embed code to put elsewhere (Blog etc). The 'community' thing has gone long ago (if it was ever there in the first place).
If you have a 'pro' account, they are very quick to answer emails !

I don't like the way its 'pitched' nowadays, I should say.

I use soundcloud just as you do Pete but for some reason its giving me are hard time.

I suppose Bandcamp can be used in a similar fashion these days to do the same thing.  I dont think Bandcamp embeds here, Ive never tried

I just set up a Soundcloud account for some guitar demos that I've been doing. Even before I uploaded any stuff, I had 'followers' and when I did, I had instant likes from a selection of spammers.
I would certainly not use Soundcloud to gauge any kind of realistic feedback to my (or pretty much anyones) music !
