Harold Budd
« on: December 09, 2020, 04:54:57 AM »
Many years ago, I moved into a house with some Buddhists chaps living there, they had no TV, they played records instead for their entertainment. This was one of the albums they played a lot. I had never heard anything like it before and it got me into ambient music, it still sounds beautiful now.

Thanks for your music Harold !

This too was my introduction to ambient music.

When I went to the London College of Printing in the mid 1980's to study photography, film and TV, that was the degrees title but I only did photography, we had to do an audio visual presentations using slides in those old Kodak carrousel and accompany the presentation with music.  For my presentation I used Carl Orff's music from Carmina Burana. Wonderfully over the top dramatic.  The next AV presentation from one of my classmates used the Pearl.

What I heard that day sent me on a journey that I am still on.

Love his natural intimate piano play and ambiences. An inspiration for me, always.

My favorite piece from him is "Gypsy Kings" that I deeply love.

Very sad news indeed. One of the all-time great geniuses of ambient music, in my opinion.
