Innesti - Filament & Place
« on: May 01, 2021, 09:00:24 PM »
A new Innesti album, 'Filament & Place', was released on Dronarivm this past Friday. I wanted to make a note of it here in case anyone wanted to check it out. Digital and limited edition cassette. Minimal, ethereal ambient music, with a bit of moody drone work too. (Maybe a bit too moody in places.) Mastered by Porya Hatami; cover art by Natalia Drepina.

There is something about your music that is special, just your sound. The pace, the melancholy, the positive strive, just the sounds that make something. This is very much like you did on Apperception. Great new work, Chris. What I do love the most is your pace, time stands still in your music. Favorite tracks so far: Repeating our mistakes and Nil Shore.

As long as I don't forget, I'm going to get this tomorrow for Bandcamp Friday.

I bought it yesterday. I just need to find the time to listen to it. I also bought one of Jaja's recent albums as well.

I loved seeing this release on your own Bandcamp site. Also I find the two end tracks a very nice change to the original release.

I am glad you found a place in the ambient scene, and the right setup in your studio. You are so talented. Do you already use any hardware components in your studio?

Thanks, Jana! It has been a fun adventure for sure, and I'm glad that there is an audience for this kind of ambient music--something that sits at the edge between the kind of deep space ambience that I "grew up" with (e.g., Steve Roach, Vidna Obmana) and some of the modern hazy, loopy, melodic work that characterizes a lot contemporary ambient releases.

I've experimented with some hardware components, but keep returning or reselling the stuff. I feel most at home in a fully digital environment. It is mostly an artifact of being a programmer, not by trade, but as a hobby. I still have modular envy, however. I don't think that will ever go away.

I'm listening to your album while I'm reading Siberia by Colin Thubron and it's practically a perfect soundtrack for it. Beautiful soundscapes once again. Congratulations on being able to have it on your own Bandcamp page as well.

Also, I can definitely hear a bit of that old school Vidna Obmana influence on this one. It reminds me particularly of The Trilogy and The River Of Appearance. He and Roach are some of my all-time favorites in the ambient world.
